You don't have enough money to protect so why worry about it early on. Once you get successful attacking and stealing sizable coin, then you start to build your fortifications.

You DO need to protect your money long enough to get the upgrades though, hence lvl 1 fort.

Yah thanks for the info I'm itching for a fight though but not with that guy not anytime soon anyway. Here is some info I found not sure how much it will help though. I am more interested to know if the location of stuff changes from day to day or if it stays the same. For some reason I like the deserted bases the most atm.

No if you plan well you can avoid getting cleaned out while you are afk. The same person can only attack you once per day and if they are a much higher level than you they actually get less money in an attack. A group of people are unlikely to target you until you have caused some trouble for them in the first place. The most money is made when you attack or defend against a player that is about the same level as you are. You use your moves to try and find or steal money. Then save a few moves so you can find a store to upgrade your stats before you run out of moves. I have mapped all the stores that are close to my base so I can find them fast and easy. Then when you are afk you don't have much money in play for people to take as you have spent it on your upgrades to help you in your next turn. If people weaker than you attack you and fail you will actually gain money.

I don't want to give much advice on how to play though I'm not sure of the best method yet in fact I think there are a ton of ways to play and do well. I have a feeling it would be the most fun to just cut loose and attack everything you see though just for kicks. lol
