Underrated? The guy went almost 2 years without a sacrafice fly, and almost all of his RBI come from homeruns most of which were solo shots. He has no concept of when to move a runner over, go the other way, just hit a flyball, etc. and he strikes out in key situations all the time. I used to live in Reds country, and most the Reds fans I knew even hated this guy.

This is exactly why Dunn is underrated.

[/ QUOTE ]

Is that meant to say that I am wrong in my assessment of Mr. Dunn? Care to expand?

Dunn had a .387 OBP last year and hit 40 home runs. The year before, he had a .388 OBP and hit 46 home runs. The man can rake. It's that simple. All of the small ball skills you mention *might* add up to a win over the course of the season, but he's winning many games for the Reds with his stick.

It's too bad because I did have respect for your posts, but this is just ridiculous. To say that hitting sac. flys and not striking out in key situations "might add up to a win over the course of a season" is crazy. And yeah, Dunn walks a lot, hence the high OBP, but over the past two years he's also averaged around .250 with 180+ K's per season. There is a lot more to baseball than being able to hit homers in the most homer friendly park in the league.

You really need to quit taking Tim McCarver so seriously.

Go Aaron Miles! 4-5 with 2 RBI's. I am glad they wised up with regards to Spivey. Pujols (2 HR's) and Rolen (grand slam) did not look too bad either. GO CARDS!!!!

Thank you,

Jim Kuhn

SWEEP of the Phillies

\Marquis looked great on the mound and at the plate

great start to the year
Pujols is still himself
Rolen looked good
Molina was solid
Starters were above average
Relievers gave a few real good innings

the first two games against the small bears have not gone well to say the least

The 5-1 game was uglier than the score... Bad pitching, bad hitting, bad fielding, mental mistakes. It was like the two teams had switched jerseys. The only bright sports were Edmonds being locked in on Maddux and Rolen's ability to turn on an inside pitch and smash it for a double with his shoulder.

Carpenter pitched a gem in game 2 and the offense got enough off of Zambrano partly by taking advantage of his emotional instability. The breaks (*cough* umpires *cough*) definitely went the Cards way. Unfortunately, the bullpen picked game 5 as its first poor performance. Barrett and Lee hit the dingers....game over. The Cubbies bullpen looked much better from the last few years.

I'm looking forward to seeing Ponson tomorrow.

ugh...
Suppan v Maddux
Carpenter v Zambrano
Ponson v Marshall
should've gotten 2 of 3 here

Oh well, it wouldn't be April if I didn't have to hear how great the Cubs are.

I don't think anything got to Zambrano. After the bad call and the 2 errors, he gave up 1 walk and a bloop hit to score the 2nd run. In reality, the Cards should have been shutout. So really other than the Edmonds homer, the Cards have done nothing in 2 days.

Also, the Cubs played terrible today and still won, so I am feeling pretty good at this point. Can't believe that we will keep A.P. down like this the entire season though.

Zambrano walked a weak hitter-Schumacher to put a runner in scoring position.

Then, he gave a pitch that Molina knocked the other direction for a base hit similar to the game-winning rbi Molina had just the other day.

That's two mistakes to the bottom of the order that added an insurance run.

One better pitch by Hancock and the Cards win today.

Yeah. Average and K's mean very little. Read moneyball or something.
