Paul Phillips! [/ QUOTE ] That's a really good pick, Vince. Paul's got an excellent track record with at least 4 major final tables in large NL events (3 WPT + Turning Stone, 1 first, 2 second). Plus multiple WSOP final tables. But in WSOP tourneys of this size, Raymer has the best results. |

[ QUOTE ] WTF? No love for Daniel or Doyle? [/ QUOTE ] Daniel hasn't monied in the last 4 big WSOP NL tournies. Neither has Doyle. Or Seidel. Think people, think. Why pick these failures instead of thee guy who's got a 1st, 6th, 25th, and 86th in the four largest NL tournies in WSOP history? [/ QUOTE ] Raymer? Quite possibly an easy choice. He was on top of my list when asked this question among a fellow 2+2'er when asked the question. Another possibility would be Matasouw. I would also take Ivey. And the 4th person I would take would be Juanda. |

Not that I'd be surprised to see Raymer do very well - and three cheers for him, because he seems to be a great guy as well as a great poker player - I think I'm going with Negreanu. His ability to know exactly where he is in a hand against a weird variety of players is awesome, and I think his game is really peaking. His (very short) 2005 run was one characterized by great play and really bad luck. Give him a little run to get started, and he could go all the way.

Just to be different, and to give some love to an underappreciated player who has won the WSOP ME as well as a WPT event and nearly 4 million in career tourney earnings according to the Hendon Mob DB, I'll pick Juan Carlos Mortenson.

[ QUOTE ]
It's not Harrington. So how does anyone pick these guys to win in 2006 when they've failed so utterly in the last four big WSOP tournies? [/ QUOTE ] How'd Harrington fail in the last 4 WSOP's? Maybe I missed that. |

[ QUOTE ]
He's a great all around player but hasn't won a NL tournament in over 2 years according to the Hendon Mob. [/ QUOTE ] You mean like how he DIDN'T win the Monte Carlo Millions and then the Monte Carlo Invitational two days later and how he DIDN'T take home $1.6 M? Those were both NL tourneys last time I checked, and the second victory was against a suicide table of poker's elite. |

I'd like to see your short list of successes, please. |

I am really surprised to see John Juanda so low in the list,
According to iprdata.com he is the best player in the World today... |
