does 'the key' have anything to do with him possibly trying to use a 1k and a 500 chip to make the call and in the process of putting the chips in the pot, mistaking a 500 with a 5k? when you say he needs more aggression in his game it could be indicative of him being prone to slowplay a set on the flop, and if he doesn't raise aq/aj pf and you assume he folds qq to the turn lead then i guess his flatting range and 'fake' raising range on the turn are only really consistent of aa/kk and maybe ak. the thing is i feel like people will slowplay sets and play ak a bit faster because they still have a small fear of being drawn out on.
EDIT: and he exclaimed call! after he realized he threw the wrong chip out with the 1k chip. |

Call. Then if no A, or K on the river, take him to valuetown. Here's why:
I haven't read all the responses but I think the "key" is the extra 1k chip plus the 3 seconds. He threw in the 1k AFTER the 5k to make SURE that it couldn't have been a call (as far as I know throwing in 1 oversized chip without saying anything is ruled a call) so he made sure that the floor couldn't come to this ruling. So, for the first three seconds everyone would think it's a raise. this is because he is afeared that UTG has him beat with some kind of monster but at the same time he think he has ZJ beat. Thus, I think he's angleshooting UTG to see if he will come over the top instantly(he doesn't). After 3 seconds, BB realizes that UTG doesn't have AA/KK so he says "call" (which he knows it won't be). So now ZJ is in the hand facing a raise. He thinks he is ahead of ZJ but possibly behind AA/KK/TT Keep in mind that his angleshooting of UTG means that he doesn't have a super monster (AA or KK) because that's what he's afraid of. So he hasn't set over setted ZJ but thinks he is ahead of ZJ. As it is right now I put him on AK/AQ, Call. |

[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I have spent the past 8 hours at work thinking about this hand, and have realized that ZeeJustin is mindfucking us. There is no "key". There is no Armenian guy. This whole hand is fictional. [/ QUOTE ] Nah. This isn't another 43o. I really don't think the answer is debatable at all once you have heard the correct explanation. I LOVE the fact that there is no consensus yet on the right answer. [/ QUOTE ] on every good HSMTT thread there never has been a consensus part of a good hand for posting is grey area. I still wonder why you were going to c/r this flop and why you didn't raise PF. |

preflop he says raise before throwing out chips, but on the turn he doesnt. This makes it seem more like an angle shoot

When straightforward players raise 5x BB they almost always have JJ or AK. This is because they do not like playing these hands post-flop but they are strong pre-flop hands. If he has JJ maybe he thinks you are just picking up the pot on the turn so he is calling (w/ 1000 chip and 500 chip). He said call 3 seconds later because he wanted to clarify that he was just calling using 1500 in chips. If he has AK he probably feels like he is sitting on a monster so doesn't care if it is a call or raise. Call turn and lead river.

hmm maybe utg had 10s here and folded and thus you should go with his read and fold your even lower set.

Fold. The guy has AA like everytime.
The only possible hand besides AA is maybe he misread his hand and has A4. The details that make this so obvious to me are the low voiced raise. Consistent with AA. Checking the flop is consistent with the player bluffing the old lady and showing. The flop check with a set against two players he precieves to be good and tricky is consistent with showing bluffs to old ladies he probably feels a bit superior to. Against the big boys he wants to pull off a tricky slow play. Also, I think he would bet with KK because this player would expect to get big action from and ace (this type of player always assumes that someone has top pair). Same with AK. QQ would fold turn. The raise confusion is a genuine mistake caused by the excitement of having a big hand against the good tough players and the fact that he was thinking on some level about getting out the big chips with his monster hand. Very consistent with AA. I hope you catch an 8 on the river cause you have but 2outs. |

the key to this hand is that we have a set. So we need to get all the chips in.
