. Dick Cheney is the Vice-President and isn't in the Navy. Do you think some random Captain in the Navy would start shooting off at the mouth at him? [/ QUOTE ] Maybe if the both were deployed in Afghanistan looking for terrorists and Cheney said "The power of the navy is insignificant next to the power of Jesus". |

Just watched ROTJ over the weekend. Leaving aside the improbability of a bunch of elite clone troops being brought down by rock throwing dwarves:
* Vader says, "You underestimate the power of the Dark Side--I MUST obey my master." Why then did he offer to "Rule the galaxy as father and son" in TESB? * The entire reason he turned bad was to give Padme eternal life. When he found out that wasn't true (seconds after awakening in his metal costume), why didn't he go against the Emperor then? |

vader was fooled into thinking that he was responsible for padme's death [/ QUOTE ] "Fooled?" He force choked her. Isn't it clear that he was responsible for her death? Even so, eternal life implies that Palpatine would be able to keep her alive even after being force choked. |

[ QUOTE ] The guy hand picked by the Emperor to be his right-hand man needs to rely on a bunch of people dying in battle to get a promotion? [/ QUOTE ] The Empire outsourced the construction of the first Death Star and had Vader dotted-line report to the PM for that project (Tarkin). When that project turned out to be an abject failure, in no small part due to Tarkin's overly aggressive management style ("Evacuate?!"), the Board of Directors determined that if that kind of capital expenditure was going to be made a second time, the only way it would approve is if actual Empire employees were used on the project, which explains why it was still incomplete. I recall hearing that 'Revenge of the Jedi' was a hoax title to keep fans off the track, that they would figure out the spoiler of Anakin returning from the dark side if the true title were released early. I remember being fired up about 9 parts as well. Now with all the canon novels though, the later three parts would amount to filming novels that are already out there. [/ QUOTE ] The real title of Return of the Jedi was supposed to be: "Even Though He Went Black, He Can Still Come Back." |

* Vader says, "You underestimate the power of the Dark Side--I MUST obey my master." Why then did he offer to "Rule the galaxy as father and son" in TESB? [/ QUOTE ] This is a very roughshod explanation, but from reading various books I've gathered that the Sith is always just two people - a master and a student/servant. Eventually the student will try to destroy his master, take his place, and choose his own student. Unfortunately for Vader, he was almost destroyed himself before being saved by Palpatine. As a result, he never would have had enough power to overthrow the Emperor by himself. However, with the help of a freshly turned Luke, they could destroy him together. Whether or not Lucas had this in mind when he wrote this story is up to debate (and like a lot of things in the movies/universe probably wasn't). EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sith - This mentions the "always two" rule among other things. |
