My clearest Elaine memory is the time she went ape on Diablo for reasons I misremember, but which seemed hysterically over-reactive at the time. (That this is my 'clearest' Elaine memory might itself be significant.) I mean, she called him a 'pussy-ass.' In earnest. Over, like, nothing at all. Surely, regardless of what personal shortcomings Diablo, like us all, may well possess, no rational, thinking person would call him a pussy and mean it.

As I wrap up it occurs to me that I don't even remember why I started recounting this in the first place. Shrug.

Definitely. It was whether you let the cell ring on silent, or whether you took it out to hit "End" or "Ignore" or whatever. She couldn't quite grasp what El D was saying.
