Mon,

While a lot of people over there seemed to appreciate my contributions in alcohol and entertainment threads, diebitter considered my posts there trolling, so I don't bother posting there anymore.

Just picked up the Balvenie 12 doublewood per your rec El Diablo, unfortunately I probably won't open it tonight since I already started with the budweisers but I'm looking forward to it with a few cigars with all the football and holidays in the next few days.

OK El D, I picked up an old potrero rye and a germain robin brandy that I have not opened yet. Which one for NYE or both? I have had the old potrero, but not for a while, never had the germain robin

HDPM,

What a dumb question. Both, of course!

I have just gotten started on brandy in the last couple of years. I have a few cognacs and armagnacs and have tried a bunch more, but I can't offer much opinion/advice on the stuff besides buying whatever the folks at K&L recommend to me and really enjoying it all so far!

Which Old Potrero did you get? Might be different from what you had before. They currently offer three ryes:

100 Proof Hotaling - http://www.anchorbrewing.com/about_u...o_hotaling.htm

125 Proof 18th Century - http://www.anchorbrewing.com/about_u...trero_18th.htm

90 Proof 19th Century - http://www.anchorbrewing.com/about_us/oldpotrero.htm

Those links describe the different types of barrels/aging used for the releases.

HDPM,

Very interested in hearing how their latest batch of this is. I'm generally a big fan of cask strength whiskies, but I had this a few years ago and felt the alcohol just way overpowered the flavor. I'm pretty sure they stopped making the 125 for a while (I think that was what they first made, then they switched to the 90, now they have all three). If you like this one, I'll go pick up a bottle. Good ryes are great.

BTW, Balvenie Scotch 12 Year Double Wood $33 - is imo the best scotch value around.

[/ QUOTE ]

Was at the store last night and I found this, but it was $60 , is it possible I was mistaking it for a different Balvenie? I don't think it said double wood but it had a pic of 2 wood barrels on the front and it was a 12 year old.

Thanks for the link, I think I'll order it online. I guess 1 thing I didn't think about is I didn't look to see what size bottle it was because it was in a box, it could have been bigger then a 750.
