Default Re: Ask me your WOW \"world of warcraft\" questions.

[ QUOTE ]
1. Why is the 1-60 game oriented towards people who have limited time and like to accomplish things on their own yet the lvl 60 raid game requires you to schedule your life around WoW?

2. Why hasn't Blizzard developed a new 5-man instance in 18 months?

3. Why has Blizzard added 4 raid instances with good loot yet non-raiders are still stuck wearing stuff that's been around for 2 years?

4. Why isn't there progression in 5-man instances at 60
? Strat/scholo/BRS/DM they all have equivalent loot and are of equivalent difficulty. But MC->BWL->AQ->Naxx has defined progression where the encounters get more difficult and consequently the loot is better. Imagine if BWL, AQ, and Naxx were all of MC difficulty and had MC level loot with stats moved around a bit.

5. Why do warriors get to have their cake and eat it too? They are the only class that gets to excel at 2 roles, tanking and DPS. Druids, priests, shaman, paladins, all of those are only good for healing because of a) lack of itemization b) raid efficiency and c) they are inferior at their 2nd role relative to DPS/tanking classes. Does Blizzard have a hard-on for warriors?

6. Why are the official forums always so damn slow? Why do I have to log in every time instead of it saving my login info like every single other forum on the internet?

7. Since there are 10x as many subscribers as the next MMO, why isn't there even 2x as much content added?

[/ QUOTE ]

1. This part of the game sucks. Only the top 10% of players get to see the entire game and enjoy the best items. Level 70 will alleviate some of this. MC will be 15 manned. But tier one is already [censored], and it will only get worse. I dont think the encounters beyond MC will be executable by casuals, unless HP's and spells double in effectivness. The cycle continues.

2. Dont know. There is demand for it, but the dev's focus on endgame content and have left the casual player in the dust. They attempted to answer this buy making strat, sholo only 5 man. But the instances are so incredible boring that people jump st8 into MC wearing greens and skip the 5 mans. Tier .5 is a joke, not worth the grind and hard to find PUGS capable of getting it done.

3. This is a gripe of many players. It sucks, I have no idea why. Iguess it increases the value and drool factor of teh uber drops. If everybody had thunderfury, it would not be as desirable.

4. Me thinks its keep guilds together. It forces raiding groups to focus on one instance, then go onto the next. I dont think to many guilds could handle the choice of 4 instances, everybody would want focus on the instance with the best loot for their class. PEople would be pulled in different directions instead of a common focus.

5. Warriors are an interesting class. As you mentioned, the are the only ones who can tank, or they can spec to top the DPS charts. They also get the phattest loot. I play a warrior and cannot imagine playing a support class, though I am glad that others took this route as it allow me to have fun, without having to buff or heal.

6. Forum servers are tied to login servers. Makes it slow for everybody. IT has gotten alot better in tha past few pathces.

7. I think its is becasue 90% of the player base has not seen the entire game. Why add more if it is unobtainable to the majority of the subscriber base. IT would turn into EQ and people would quit, and blizz would lose money.

Great questions, dont know if my answers are accurate, but taht is my take on the game.

for those of you who play this game, did you play everquest before for a long time? and if so how the hell did you get yourself involved in another timesink?

[/ QUOTE ]

I played EQ for years and WoW for a few months. I thought it might be fun to try just because I liked the imagination Blizzard typically shows in its games. EQ's world was fairly drab; Blizzard's games tend to explode with color and have a lot of humor.

But ultimately, WoW just didn't hold up as a game. I was looking for something better than EQ, but for me it was something worse than EQ, so I split.

Plus, I was more than a little tired of the MMORPG grind anyway. And I didn't want to lose too much valuable poker playing time, especially if I wasn't completely thrilled with WoW. And I wasn't.

I didn't even know there was going to be one, though I guess that's inevitable. I thought Diablo 2 wasn't as fun as Diablo 1, though -- the dungeons seemed to have more variety in D1. Having randomly recreated levels is one of my favorite things in games, so I hope they do well on that in the next outing. I'm sure I'll buy it.

When's it coming out? Years from now?

Do they have any MMORPGs that have zero raid content? Moving to Hawaii and being on a vacant time zone basically killed EQ for me. I couldn't go from hard-core raider to casual player without constantly feeling frustrated about how pathetic the pace of my characters' progression would be, and jealous about items I would basically never any hope of getting (except, perhaps, by waiting two years so that mudflation allows for 'open' weekend raids on formerly uber content).

There is a huge market for farming Materials and gold in WOW. One could make an income from farming......but it in no way compares to what you could be making grinding low level poker.

WOW has sustained the economies of many underdeveloped regions, simply by having employees grind gold and rare materials. (arcane crystals, Black lotus).

But his would not translate to a living wage in the USA.

But for many south asian communities, it provideds a job and respectable way of life.

[/ QUOTE ]

What are you talking about? Real money? Please elaborate.

[/ QUOTE ]

"farmers" make real money off of gather items in WOW. They sell thes items, and the sell gold on ebay or through an eztablished "gold seller" website. People pay money for gold transferred to their account. Stabn illustrated this nicely. Americans will pay 110-140$$ per 1000 WOW gold. This is collected throught paypal, then reimbursed to to companies which mine gold. WOW use this money as currency in game to buy items that help them progress. (potions, rare materials to build gear, and repair money).

1000 gold will buy you a months worth of repair bills, and other high end materials to build legendary weapons. (30 arcanite bars)/ FYI thunderfury a legendary sword requires 100 arcanie bars which cost 35 gold on my server. That meant to get a legendary item crafted it may cost 3500g of materials.(arcanite) Which can be purchased for 300-400 Us dollars.

In short; farmers do the heavy lifiting providing the materials, and americans pay real $$ to materials to have their weapons built.
The SE asian communities which supply the gold have a room full of players constantly mining gold and items, to sell to americans willing to pay for such services.
