[ QUOTE ] I think the commentators are god-awful, so I'd love that option. Better yet, they should have a commentary track with the players, that'd be awesome. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, a show with only the player discussion of random props would be SWEET. If you hate the commentators, watch it on mute. Pretty simple solution, no? [/ QUOTE ] And miss the table talk? Are you craaaaaaaaaaaaaazy? |

3rd Season already. Damn GSN moves fast. HSP must be the highest rated show they've ever had, the way they keep rushing out new seasons. (not that I'm complaining) [/ QUOTE ] I mean its about the easiest possible show you could ever film. Seriously, its just a goldmine. Its a straight 24 hour shoot over 2 days (roughly 2 12 hour sessions, right?), then just some editing and bring in the two hosts for 3 days of creating commentary, and bam, you are done. The costs on this show must be super cheap. Each episode is probably about 60k to produce. I think with the prop fee its about 15k an hour for the players, I'm sure the casinos shove each other out of the way to have it hosted there (def free advertising...hell The Palms prob paid), and so on. I doubt the film crew is more than 5 people, and honestly its probably 3, so figure they are paying about 2k an episode for labor, 2k for equipment rentals, and well I got carried away and you get the picture. This show is ridic cheap to produce. It would have to get like a .0001 rating to not turn a profit. Its just a perfect show. I bet they can bang out 12 episodes in less than a month for like 750k total cost, and I'm probably going too high here. I'm amazed they don't just have new episodes every week like wrestling. 1 2 day session provides 3 months of episodes (12 total). Surely they could get a game once every three months and never have a gap in the programming. It will probably happen soon. What would really kick ass if they expanded to other games. They could probably risk trying to do a HORSE season or something different since it is so cheap to produce. I'm sure most of the market they have would watch. It would probably turn a profit too. |

Yeah I'm hoping other shows get shown ... I mean PL omaha would be a GREAT game for TV .. huge pots. Also I would love to see some NL single draw on TV ... after watching that 2004 WSOP episode with Barry G and Howard Lederer I was addicted to that game. Really fun to watch just as exciting as NLHE ...

You are wrong about how much this show would cost to produce. Players are paid more than $1500 per hour not sure on the exact figures but Daniel mentioned them in his blog.
There would be huge post production costs in editing etc. over 11hrs of footage from 10 or 11 different cameras. Per playing day. Also the sound post would be very complicated to mix and balance from so many different mikes, ie each player has one and then others capturing atmos etc. Also the crew would cost at least $2000 per hour than per show. Depending on size and experience. Look now I got carried away. But this show is not as easy or cheap to produce as you might think. There are hundreds of hours and costs that would go into a production this size. From the catering you can see behind the tables to the production hours liasing with the players, and the palms trying to negotiate timetabling, payment, releases etc. TV aint cheap. |
