I'm fine with locking the movie one. I think the ladies one is fine as is, but wouldn't oppose a lock if others think it'll help.

All I want to see, frankly, is a little more new threadage around here.

I was wondering if the Ask the 2+2 Ladies thread should be locked and maybe just start a new one? I don't know how people feel about that. I tend to ignore super long threads myself, don't know why.

I would love it if more people would try their hand at making a new thread. Let's see what the shy regulars and lurkers can come up with. Consider it a challenge! Is there something that's been bugging you lately? Is there a current event or news topic you would like to discuss?

Your OP does not have to be long or intellectual. It just has to spur some type of discussion.

NEVER lock a popular thread. It's probably one of the main draws in the forum now. If you lock it, it will be like it never existed and the forum will lose the credit for having generated so much interesting discussion.

Does OOT or ELDF lock up a thread just because it's successful?

Doing so would be perverse; almost cutting off your nose to spite your face.

As to navigation, if you are using Flat mode with a high post setting, this shouldn't be an issue, and everyone should be using Flat mode and bump their setting for threads & posts per page, imo.

[/ QUOTE ]

VERY much agree. You're brutalizing yourself if you have to click on posts sequentially instead of just scrolling through them.

Ok, I bow to the wisdom of Blarg.

But I do agree with Diebitter here. We would really like to see more people jumping in and starting new threads. Come on regulars and lurkers out there! What's it going to take. Don't make me have to beg. No one wants to see that. My hat's off to Dom and X-Factor because I think they are two posters who just go for it without overthinking things and frankly that's what the lounge needs more of. I happen to like this trait about both of them. They have a great spirit!

True, but some of these long running threads need to be cut up into manageable chunks. Some of them get so big they are hard to navigate and I find myself ignoring them because of this

[/ QUOTE ]

Amen! I won't read them myself. I'm sure I would have some input for What movies have you watched recently or What are you watching on TV tonight. But they have become such behemoths I won't open them.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't mean this in a negative way, but that's silly. If ever there were threads where the history doesn't matter, it's these. Especially the t.v. one. There is little carry-over from page to page, and you have to make about zero investment in reading it to contribute to it. If you want to bother, check it out for yourself -- it's more like bathroom reading where you go for a post or a page and, then it's time to clean up and get outta there.

I can see being intimidated by some long threads, if they're particularly deep, but even those, you don't need to start at from the beginning. Just go back if you feel like it, when you feel like it, for as long as it's interesting. You don't owe anymore. Really, even tl;dr forum doesn't require a huge investment. It's just for fun.

I think we should worry less about "fixing" and micromanaging things so much. This tendency gets at its worst when we even start talking about killing our successes! That's truly perverse, and looks to me like the kind of thinking that won't be satisfied until it sinks this ship.

You guys need thicker skins. Don't go overreacting to every little thing that comes along. It becomes easy to take your own successes as background noise and therefore give only your doubts and open questions any credence. But that makes you perpetually hyperactive and vulnerable to any criticism no matter its worth. You wind up full of self-doubt, never satisfied, and just plain hapless.
