[/ QUOTE ] So you're implying that real estate is not that great of an investment? (Gross oversimplification, yes; I just want to get your take on what message you intended on sending when you posted that chart). |

For the average man not looking to get into the industry what is the best way to learn about the real estate market? You mentioned in this thread that there are no good websites out there with information. But for most of us looking for a bit of education we're not going to go be apprentices for a few years. Where do we look to for knowledge?
Are there any good books out there worth a read outside of Real Estate for Dummies? Are the weekend seminars with Trump and Kiyosaki worth the fees? What about night classes at the community college, any substance there? I ask because I'll be looking for a first house within the next 6-24 months and at least want to have some clue to what I'm doing when it happens. |

Tommy,
What;s your current opinion of Real Estate in general. Do you think were still in the early stages of this downturn in home prices? I live in NY and where prices have held up quite well actualy increased if I'm not mistaken, do you think a market such as the NY metro area will see prices drop in the next 6-12 months? |

Where do you live currently? Real estate in vancouver is at the absolute top end, market went up about 20% last year .. will be the same this year. Vancouver has always been on the top 10 list of cities to live in .. in the world. The biggest failure of this city is 1) affordability 2) homlessness. Move here if you have a reason.. ie your a programmer going to work for Microsoft.. (opening a new branch office here (Richmond) with about hundreds of new jobs. I live in Vancouver and own a busniess in Richmond 20 minute drive) Otherwise I would save my $ and wait for the bloodletting to begin in the US housing market. Front page news in the Vancouver Sun today... BC targets Homeless with Riverview project I am looking into buying, either a condo in the Olympic village after the athletes leave Or a US property in a depressed market. It gives me time to build up my BR! |
