yes, they look retarded because they can't hold 30 bags of groceries and because the driver just spent 10 bucks to get from his house to the store. I'm don't want to discourage Utah from getting his dream car. Just let him know what impression me and people I know get from a viper. Also the last viper I had seen was one of the older models that looked pretty yuck. The newer models look allright(that's were I got the 90k info from).

Look at it this way. If my future husband makes bank and then at one point says he wants to buy a viper, I would say that's great. He's worked hard and deserves his toy. I would ride in it with him and have a blast. It would make me feel good to see him drive off from the house and go wherever people drive their speedy fast sports cars. According to pictures I've seen it's usually a lonesome highway with trees all around. And generally in the mornings.

At the same time if he walked up to me and asked "what do you think most people think of me when they see me in my viper?" I woulds say "oh, well they think your a dork going through a midlife crisis". Then I'd kiss him on the cheek and walk off to go cook dinner in my state of the art kitchen. Magda the maid would be off picking up my two kids from school. One boy and one girl. They'd be named Roman and Isabella. Also I would occasionally look out the window to check out pierre the cute garden boy. He works with his shirt off which is nice.

You should buy another MR2 turbo. There are still a lot out there that have low mileage and have been maintained well. You'll be disappointed moving from an MR2 into a Viper.

hmmm. d10, first thing i have ever disagreed with you on. a viper has a better power to weight ratio, (.118 hp/lb vs. .075) a better rubber to weight ratio (i'm confidently guessing on that one) and is a good bit faster on the top end. it also has the open roof. the only thing i can think of would be the abs advantage of the mr2, since the 92 viper had neither abs nor airbags available.

i can almost see what you are saying, seeing as the mr2 might be more "tossable". after driving a turbocharged miata last week, i can attest to the driving fun of a turbocharged lightweight car, but i still can't see past the 400hp V10 in a viper.

just like a gourmet meal is a combination of taste, aroma and presentation, i will venture that a viper hits more of the sweet spots in a driving experience than a mr2 turbo. i prefer finesse over brute force anyday, but in a strict mr2 vs viper comparason, i don't really think the mr2 has a chance. listening to the roar of a v10 shred 335 tires through 1st and 2nd, is an experience that is hard to duplicate without drugs, let alone a 200hp toyota.

nitpicky; yes. correct; probably

[censored] that souped up Volkswagon. Viper by a mile.

Please....do your homework before making retarded statements like this.

Virtually any foreign high end car > Dodge Viper

When it comes to longevity and performance, USA has some work to do.

It does have a lot in common with old VW's, and that is not a bad thing.

absoludicrous,

Thanks for a much more civil response. Next time consider originally responding as such instead of resorting to calling me an asshat because you disagree with the opinion that I've espoused.

[ QUOTE ]
Performity, how, and why does buying a car you like make you a tool? Then what car should you buy? Something you dislike?

How is buying a Porsche 996 any different than a Viper?

[/ QUOTE ]

Buying something doesn't make you anything.

I never said it did. Utah didn't ask if it would magically turn him in to a douchebag. Utah know's he's not a douche.

Utah asked what sort of impression driving a Viper would give off, and if said impression should be a deal killer for buying the car.

My answer to that is that yes, generally speaking in my experience, a very high percentage of people driving a viper that don't track their car are giant tools. Yes, the car has a negative social connetation, and in fact a generally well deserved one.

Its not that buying the car makes you a tool - its that people who generally actually purchase a viper for a street car are your stereotypical midlife crisis suffers. (again exceptioning all those who buy it as a second high-performance car which will see a significant amount of track time, etc). As Mrs. Utah and friend indicated, there's a pretty well-deserved social opinion of people who drive Vipers.

Should that be enough to convince him not to buy the car? I don't care.

Should he buy the car? I'd definately recommend otherwise - not because of the social stigma, but because other than as a track car the viper is a terrible choice. Most of my original response wasn't about the perception - its continuning in this same vein about how he shouldn't really be considering the viper. Yes, it looks good. yes, its got an incredible engine. But they're a pain in the ass to drive. They're completely impractical in every aspect of the word. They're sub-par quality cars in every aspect except the engine and the exterior styling.

Buying a 996 is different, in my book, as the 996 is a significantly superior car. Better engineering. Better design. significantly better quality. More practical and enjoyable in daily drivability - including gas mileage. More likely to retain a significant portion of its value. And yeah, doesn't stick out as "hey look at my autopenis" the same way a Viper does.

As to the rest, i'm drinking a starbucks misto right now. But girly drinks or tanning? I'm not going to hit such an obvious target

I think that the later posts are getting to the bottom of this. The car is absurdly pricey, the gas is absurdly pricey(even worse right now with 3.50/gallon), the upkeep is ubsurdly pricey, the insurance is upsurdly pricey. Why would anyone throw all this money into a car if they aren't racing it??? oh ya, cuz they are tools. I love it when I see a dude pulling into Target in a viper. It just looks freaking retarded...

[/ QUOTE ]

Why does it look retarded? Should he not be at Target because he has a Viper? Would a BMW at Target look retarded to you? What about an Audi? Acura? NSX is retarded but RSX would be ok to you right? Where is the line that you draw in terms of cars that would be ok and cars that would look retarded at Target?

[/ QUOTE ]

I was not aware that audi's and BMW's sold for 90,000 dollars or that they got 12 miles to the gallon. The reason it is retarded is because the purchase is a practice in vanity. You can take your kids to school in a bmw, there is trunk space for your groceries in a bmw. You can easily make it through the drive thru of a jack in the box in a bmw. Also you will have places to put your burger, fries and drink when you do this. A viper has a hard time doing any of these things. The car is completely impractical and I make the assumption that a person driving one will be vain, recently divorced, mid-life crisis, small pecker, etc... etc... OP asked what girls REALLY think about guys in these cars. And unless they are gold diggers, they think the things I previously mentioned.

[/ QUOTE ]

So, do you buy all your clothes at Wal-Mart? If not, STFU.
