Default C/R River? Another pocket 5s hand

After three seconds of retrospect, I decided I normally would have liked to c/r the river.

What is villain checking the flop and calling the turn with on a board like this that you're not going to beat?

Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (10 handed) internettexasholdem.com

Preflop: Hero is UTG with 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].
Hero calls, 5 folds, CO calls, Button calls, SB completes, BB checks.

Flop: (5 SB) K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (5 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero checks, CO checks, Button checks.

Turn: (2.50 BB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (5 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets, CO calls, Button folds, SB folds, BB folds.

River: (4.50 BB) A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)

Villain might check flop and call turn with any piece, any T and probably even A high (they love gutties).

Whether to C/R or bet is read dependent, if guy is loose passive I just bet out since he probably has marginal hand that he won't bet but will call....if aggressive then folding to 3bet would be suck so I still like bet/call.

Only C/R i like is if type of player who could have AQ or AJ, or slowplayed QJ OR KQ at least 2/3's of the time.... hmm some brand of tighter weaker passive is the only player to fit this, but they may check the river anyway since they will fear T.

Grunching,

I think there's a big danger that CO won't bet the river. If there are extra bets to get in here, I think the C/R works on the turn. I expect to see JT,QT, and KT to be played by some villains so I'm thinking more bet/crying call than C/R on the river.

I too am 'grunching'.

I am a new poster but long time lurker. Consequently, I am trying to post in a bunch of different threads based on how I would play these hands. Based on comments, I am hoping to become a better player and see another player's approach to certain 'problem' hands.

I was responding to the OP. We are thinking the same here, Akebono.

It's hard for me to imagine a player type against whom a check-raise is better than betting.

-If you're behind, which is possible, you will almost always lose 3 bets.
-With a lot of marginal hands, villain will frequently check here. Most bad players are unobservant, but even they notice 4-straights on the board. Plus, weak players don't bet on the river as much as they should anyways. You run a very high risk of winning 0 bets by checking.
-Players who are a little better will frequently fold to your raise. If this happens, you're no better off than if you had bet.

So I say, bet.
