Was that a horsecollar tackle on Westbrook? What's the rule on that?

[/ QUOTE ]

i think the rule is that you can't get inside the shoulder pads - looked like he had him by the jersey lower down, which is legal. i don't have DVR though.

It's called so rarely, it might as well be erased from the rule book and put in the wrap around the neck tackle.

The full rule is strange. Before it had to be right into the collar. Then they made it so that even if you grabbed it from the outside, it was a penalty. But they also added that if you do it quickly without holding it non stop, then it's no foul. It's almost as random as pass interference.

the rule is that it has to actually be a "horsecollar tackle" for it to be penalized as a horsecallar tackle.

Pretty interesting concept.

Dumb question, but why not:

Is it possible that the Pats defense is losing gas? They've been on the field a long time, and they aren't used to actually having to go 100% this late in the game.

Its definitely possible, but I don't think that has as much to do with it as the fact that this is only the second time they've actually had to face a legit threat to the run, and the first time they've had to do it in the friendly confines of Gillette Stadium.
