Often, if you are HU with the nut low it is ideal to pound it. Pounding a low is most +EV when (1) there is a chance you can induce a fold, (2) there is a chance, however remote, that you can get 3/4, (3) there is very little chance that you are being quartered, and (4) the rake is already maxed out.
If you have A2 for nut low against a tight opponent, that is not one of those times. Know your opponent.
If you have reason to think you are being quartered, c/c or even folding is sometimes proper if the pot is small.
