I think it would have been better had they sold harder that they weren't seeing each other and ended the episode with the kissing scene in the car.

I think they coulda done without the whole secretive act altogether. When you think about it, it doesn't even make sense. Everyone in the office knew in Season 2 that Jim liked Pam. And then there was Pam at the beach, spilling the beans, in front of everyone! It's obvious to everyone else in the office by now that they really like each other, so what real incentive do they have to make a charade out of their relationship? I think the writers threw it in there just to provide some kind of "twist" for the season premiere.

Yeah the writers do dumb things from time to time, but they're definitely not setting some new precedent. They screw up from time to time. Still a great show (not that you're arguing otherwise).
