[ QUOTE ]
parappa, greenies or "beans," do not work like steroids in that they do something to your muscle growth to increase your ability. the toughest part of a baseball season is the grind, its different than any other sport in that mentally it will drain you and usually the best players are the ones that can overcome the difficulty of a season. [/ QUOTE ] So, essentially they use them for the reason that a truck driver or rock star would. Actually what I was thinking about was that whatever effect of staying sharp baseball players would get, cricketers would also benefit from, since they stay out in the field much longer (2-3 hours at a time without a break), and an "at bat" can take a full day. It made me wonder if there's a hidden speed culture in cricket. Also, why does this amphetamine epidemic exist in baseball (cycling also has this problem) and not, say the NHL or NBA, where the season is also quite long and the games are perhaps more physically demanding than baseball games. Is it just part of the culture of baseball and the fact that they have been historically lax in testing? |

[/ QUOTE ] an NBA or NHL season may be as long but in Baseball you play twice as many games in that same amount of time. these amount of games are very taxing are on you body as well as demanding mentally. as for the other sports, i don't know if they have this "problem" with amphetamines, they could very well use them as much as baseball. |

so, you think it's 99.9% likely, but you're reserving all possible judgements until that .1% comes in. ok. [/ QUOTE ] I actually said I don't have an opinion either way. It could be 99.9% likely in *your* opinion, but it isn't a FACT. It is a fact, however, that MLB has tested for steriods since 2003 and he hasn't failed a test. I'm not saying he is clean, but I am not jumping on the bandwagon to villify him for something just because uncredible sources tell me to. |

today, they are accepted and passed around in the lockerroom, if you run out, give a teammate $2 and he will give you one of his. [/ QUOTE ] MLB outlawed greenies and are now actively testing and suspending players who use them. |

In fact, the majority of ballplayers are upset about the juicing problem because the backlash has no took away the greenies, which will have by far a bigger impact on the game. |
