Hi, a couple of friends and I are going to vegas early in October for the first time and want recommendations regarding the nicer hotels on the strip. I've tried searching for this and found surprisingly little. Basically, according to travelaxe, its gonna be around 400 a night average for either the wynn, bellagio, or THEhotel at Mandalay. We are also considering MGM which would go for 270. Based on what I've read about the poker rooms, it seems that they all have some 2-5 nl which takes care of the poker aspect since that is what we will be playing almost exclusively. Aside from that, are there any recommendations out of this group? Which has the best location? Which is the nicest overall? Are all these hotels within walking distance from one another on the strip? I looked at the developmental maps and can't really tell the relative distances. Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.

Check out Google Maps
From the far north (Circus Circus) to the far south (Luxor/Mandalay) is about 3 miles. Caesar's is about in the middle. |

I'd add Caesar's and Venetian to your list. Both are centrally located. You aren't going to walk from Mandalay or MGM to Bellagio. If you stay at MGM, you will have the monorail option.
Since it's your first time, I'd recommend something mid-strip. |

Wherever you stay you will stay around. Maybe one day do the walk down the strip but if the HEAT is on then you might even pass on that. I notice if I stay at MGM or Luxor area I neevr go above Aladdin. Same goes if I stay on North Side. My trip this month I am staying at Aladdin so I wonder if I will stay in the center mainly or migrate south.

Venetian looks to be at least 100 dollars more a night and I don't know if my friends are going to be up for that. As for Caesar's, is it about on the level of MGM? Also, how much would a cab be from say MGM to the north strip? I'm just trying to get an idea. Thanks for the replies so far.

If you are talking about distance, this is not a bad walk at all. If it's 2PM in July, then it might be uncomfortable. From Mandalay it is considerably farther. |

Since this is your first trip, you'll want to play in as many different rooms as possible. I'd avoid any poker room rate for that reason. Last trip I stayed at Monte Carlo. It was relatively inexpensive and clean and had really friendly hookers. I would stay there again. |

Just to be clear, we are not going to be doing a poker room rate. I am more just interested in the quality of rooms of these hotels as well as best location of the bunch to both play poker and "do vegas" since this will be our first time.
