Also, if this is international-wire fraud then the act of gambling itself is breaking the 1961 wire-act.

I can definately see your point here. I agree with you that online poker in and of itself could be placed under that statute if one were to use the most broad definitions. You and I probably agree that wire fraud is an extremely broad term. I think that it falls into your definition of the statute. There is little doubt that this is some form of theft, however, and any attorney worth his salt could find a credible charge here.

This is all a moot point, however, because getting these people to trial would be next to impossible.

It would be interesting if being caught cheating online had brick and mortar ramifications.

I am sure that if someone were caught hiding tourney chips in his pocket, for future (higher buyin) WSOP tourneys they might find themselves banned from future WPT or WSOP tourneys.

Should htere be ramifications beyond those already enforced? (assuming that his is guilty as outlined in OP).

I feel fairly certain that Harrah's will ban them if they can get cooperation from the sites. On an unrelated note, Larry Flynt got a lifetime ban from the WSOP when he attempted to get someone to lose to him on purpose at the final table when it got heads-up. I know a lot of the Harrah's people, and my gut feeling is that known cheats from online will get lifetime bans from Harrah's properties (which, of course, includes all WSOP events).

[/ QUOTE ]

Quit smoking that wacky weed. it'll give ya brain damage. Harrah's is clueless as an organization when it comes to poker.

I'm not at all surprised that Party is just now starting to take action on a lot of these. Think about it for a minute, under their new software you can open up many more tables than their old software. A lot of people were multi-accounting using their old software so they could open up more tables at once (and thus generate more rake). Killing everyone that had multiple accounts prior to the upgrade probably would have costed Party a pretty penny for the people who like to 12 table SnGs. Now that the new software is out it doesn't cost them anything to do this, which is probably why they're much more active (not to mention that word got out that someone made 140k multi-accounting was probably bad for their image).

As far as the multi-accounting goes, as somoene who has had good results, and gotten them honestly, I'm glad they're cracking down. This only makes things easier for me as I no longer have to fight through top players multiple times to reach the final table. I hope the trend continues and I hope other sites start to crack down too.

Also, to a certain extent I know that every time I logon to play online poker instead of going to my card room I'm taking certain chances, and that I am being costed EV by people who multi-account, share hole cards via AIM, receive coaching via AIM, or any one of a number of activities I may or may not be aware exist that could go on. The games are still quite lucrative for me, so I continue to play them, but anything that makes the online game more honest is good IMO. We need 'Joe Poker' who watches the WPT every week to feel safe putting his money online. The second the 'new fish' stop feeling safe playing online will be the day online poker starts its decline. I for one, will hate seeing that happen.

Ok, so we know he cheated. And we know cheating is wrong.

That being said, wouldn't it be a fairly smart move on his part to issue some sort of apology? What are the odds that a well versed apology/confession would get him some sort of a reduced punishment or year ban instead of lifetime?

Let's here other suggestions as to what his next move should be. And lets try to limit the "hard drugs" and "sucking cock for heroin" jokes (even though I must admit I snickered when I read that one). If you were ZJ, what would you do?

I'd be trying to get "my" [censored] money back, and not worrying about what a bunch of n00bs on 2p2 thought. We'll hear from him eventually, whether it be here or on his website. He's definately got some explaining to do, or he will lead a very lonely life.

People wouldn't do multiple entries if it weren't pos ev, so I'm not disputing that. I'm just saying it's not because you can "take coinflips" or because "you always have 9 outs."

[/ QUOTE ]

I think this is at least part of it. It's the same philosophy that a lot of good players use in the early stages of a rebuy tournament: take a lot of risks, even make -cEV bets, to try to build a big stack. If you go broke, you can always rebuy. With 6 accounts, he's essentially playing with 5 rebuys when everyone else is playing a freezeout. For a good player, that has to be an advantage.
