Now that everyone has had their fun flaming me, it honestly wasn't clear to me whether Metric is the type of person who believes: "kill them all and let God sort it out". Don't call that a smear because there are more than a few people out there like that. The 2nd Amendment is important, but there are those who take it too far.

Metric, thank you for answering my question.

[/ QUOTE ]
You know you could just apologize for making an irresponsible and dumb cheap shot instead of trying to rationalize it away. I have no idea how someone stating they are effecient with weapons could lead you to think he meant he has a "kill them all and let God sort it out" mentality.

This is the first time I've posted extensively, but is usually how politics threads go?

I mean, like this: inane babble, argue, "well in the EU", inane babble, Borodog pwns, inane babble, inane babble. Borodog pwns, etc.

Just curious, who are the other people who pwn everyone around here? Just so I'm watching for them, you know.

[/ QUOTE ]

I tell you what, I'm one of the gun-banners. And a leftie. Pretty far left.

And I'm starting to think maybe we should try some of the things those on the other side have advocated, in terms of guns. I'd love to live in a world where guns didn't exist. Ain't gonna happen. I'll be sad to live in a society where it's common to see people with guns. But I'll be happy if I don't get a call about my kid having been shot in his classroom.

On another note, why didn't the university cancel classes today when they knew there was a known killer unapprehended on campus?

Fwiw, i have a lock on my bedroom door, thatll do me instead of a weapon of anykind.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's not worth much. Someone broke into my house on Thanksgiving (I was away) by breaking the locks on my bedroom window. He then proceeded to kick in my roommate's bedroom door (which was also locked) and pointed a gun at his head. *click* Jammed. My roommate is lucky to be alive, and admits he was foolish not to have a weapon handy.

[/ QUOTE ]

I have also had someone come into my residence in the wee hours of the morning to rob the place. He pulled a knife of me and came at me with it. I GUARANTEE YOU that if anyone finds themselves in that situation there is nothing on earth they will want more than to have a gun with them.

"That fact was almost universally ignored by the media."

It's news when people get shot, not when they don't.

Probably because it looked like a domestic homicide and the shooter had apparently left campus.

This is 100% true. I remember back during the late 80s, violent crime had fallen significantly (maybe by half; I can't recall), but coverage of it had increased ~700% in the same time frame, making it appear as if there were some sort of massive upswing in crime.

Edit: Ah, I see now what HA was referencing. Yes there are many cases where shooters have been subdued by armed civies and the fact was effectively hushed up by an anti-gun media. There was such a case a few years back in NC at ASU (I haven't looked back in the thread to see if this is the case HA is referencing).

No, many died. The killer being subdued by a gun carrying student was not reported.

Defensive and positive gun use is on the list of prohibited news in the mainstream media.
