God, I hope this is for real! Even if he doesn't get the law completely repealed, which we all should realize will be very, very difficult, this will at least give the public at large a different perspective from Washington, and give us a very big voice.
The one thing I find unfortunate, however, is that the very people who's minds really to be opened up over this whole issue (the bible-toting, conservative, southern types) are probably just going to chalk this up as more immorality being spewed from an immoral person, and that sucks. Oh well, I guess some rubes will never get it |

Some rubes will never get it, its true. But the majority of folks in the US dont agree that online poker should be illegal. Of course, the majority also aint riled up much one way or the other either. But that is where a vocal minority can make a difference.
And one thing even his critics conceed, Barney Frank is a very smart guy. I suspect the bill coming out of the FINANCIAL SERVICES COMMITTEE will largely help us by really helping FINANCIAL SERVICE PROVIDERS from the costly and futile private enforcement provisions of the UIGEA. Since there is no federal law against poker, every bank is required to be aware of each individual state law and state residence of the customer in order to know which are illegal and which are legal transactions. This is too much for the already overburdened small banking industry, and costly to the big banks and ultimately the consumer too. At the very least then lets ease the burden on these FINANCIAL SERVICE PROVIDERS and exempt online poker and its confusing mishmosh of laws from the UIGEA regulations. Thank you. I am optimistic here. Skallagrim |

Skalla,
I think your first point is hooge. 95% of people don't know or care about online poker. I'm still rooting for the banks to say its too hard to enforce. They have the real pull in this. |

[ QUOTE ] Seriously, can we leave any irrelevant gay comments out of Barney Frank discussions on this forum? He's our best ally and should be treated with respect. [/ QUOTE ] And even if he wasn't our best ally, who the [censored] cares if he's gay? I've never seen horns growing out of a homosexual's head. [/ QUOTE ] I think I finally understand the Fudgems thing!! |

Is there a chance that Rep. Frank's actions lead our opponents to push harsher laws? I hate to say it but we don't have the votes and they damn well might.

[/ QUOTE ] Our main enemies that caused UIGEA are gone. (Frist, Leach) Goodlatte and Kyl are still left, but they aren't very high up in the power scale. Frank has much more power than Goodlatte, and I don't think anyone in the Senate is officialy on our side ATM, but Kyl doesn't have much swing on his side of the aisle. |

According to this little article the great Barney Frank is going to start formally attacking the UIGEA starting arouund April 18th. The article says Frank is going to move beyond rhetoric and "move swiftly" against the "stupid" provisons of the UIGEA http://www.pokerplayernewspaper.com/...le.php?id=1886 (I don't know about you all, but I think Barney Frank deserves at least a small campaign contribution from every single poker player, and everyone who wants internet freedom as well. I know I am going to make a contribution to his campaign fund.) [/ QUOTE ] Well congrats Barney Frank, for sure. But I don't think I'll be sending in a donation. Over the past 2-3 decades, Frank has done his level best to take away a hell of a lot of economic liberty from my life (not to mention my wallet); this is only the beginning of a small repayment. But it's nice to see old Barney on the correct side of an issue for once! Go Barney Frank, you old blithering idiot (neo savant)! |
