Are you saying Tubby Smith = Mike Shula? I don't see the comparison at all. Shula was awful.

Not to mention Shula was fired, and the teams aren't exactly lining up for him.

im really surprised that Tubby did this so fast because Michigan was reportedly interested in him as well as many other coaches. not sure if Michigan would of ended up choosing him or not, but it does tell me that the Mich job is not that highly regarded if Tubby 'insta' takes the job at Minny without even talking to Mich.

I'm sure this rumor is just as credible as the rumor a few years back that Steve Spurrier was spotted house hunting in Lincoln shortly after the Frank Solich firing.

How many other D1 programs are there in MN? Compare that to the Michigan job where you have to deal with Izzo and MSU who have ruled that state for several years.

Now put yourself in Tubby's head. Seems like a pretty easy decision to me.

I don't think that is the reason why. As hard as it is for us Mich fans to say it, we just are not a big time program in basketball. Recent struggles aside, Michigan was one of the premier programs in the Big Ten, if not the country. But now the reality is we don't pay coaches well and our facilities suck. Hence, this is why a guys like Tubby makes an 'insta' decision to go to Minny.
