you must not read the mod forum. several smart mods said this was a distinct possibility from the beginning.

Why didn't these smart mods post in the main thread to address this possibility? A couple of posters were afraid this might be a bad idea, but everyone slammed them for being ignorant. Sure would have been nice to get an opinion from a repected poster that could potentially save people from getting scammed.

There were quite a few precautions first IIRC. Gildwulf requested that Vig provide proof before it all happened, and Vig responded with all the pictures of the cancer cards and the baby in front of a computer with 2p2 in the background.

It really does seem so very clear that it wasn't a scam from the beginning. My guess is that Vig really did have some trouble getting the money out, but considering he was even able to get a special account for transfers at Stars that didn't have a play option, I think he tried to remove money but didn't try that hard.

That's not my point; as I said in the other thread, I don't think this is a scam either. I just think whoever these "smart mods" are shouldn't have an "I told you so" attitude about this, given that they apparently weren't confident or secure enough in their opinions to make them public.

I didn't read the entire thread, but I've seen something similar done on another forum. Essentially the person established a good reputation, talked/met with members, etc. and then started fleecing them for cash, trips, plane tickets, sex, etc. All under the guise of someone that was terminally ill. They had fake documents and everything. Sucks if anyone got taken advantage of, or if Mrs. Vig does exist and really has cancer. I just want to put it out there that it is entirely within the realm of possibility that this was a complete fraud to begin with.

Here is my take on situation. Vig gets $ to poker account; he has a bit of a gambling problem and a relationship on the rocks so he is in no hurry to get the $ offline as there is little motivation to immediately do so. Also he, like most poker players, is probably lazy. Again, contributing to not getting $ off.
Additionally, like any semi-addicted, overconfident poker pros he probably feels like the money is not at risk and does not need to be segregated from his BR. So this means A) he is intending to get the money offline eventually (brag)
b) he is an addict who lost the $ and is stalling (beat)
c) ms. vig = hot and crazy (variance)
