Default Dixie Chicks

I love country music and the Dixie Chicks. The last album, HOME, was their best.

I live near Lubbock, Texas and get their radio and TV. This morning the talk shows were polarized and angry in their debate over the Dixie Chicks. Lubbock has a Walk of Fame for famous area folks like Buddy, Holly, Bob Wills, Waylon Jennings, Roy Orbison but more folks you have not heard of. They won't put Natalie Maines on the Walk of Fame even though she grew up there in Lubbock. None of Lubbock's radio stations will play the Dixie Chicks. They won five grammies and were at the mic five times. They were polite and didn't say anything too controversial.

I support them 100%. Lloyd Maines, Natalie's father, is a dear friend of mine and has been for thirty years. Natalie continues to make tens of millions of dollars. Hooray for her.

What has she done personally to support our troops?

I mean she is one of those who proclaims the fiction "I oppose the war, but I support the troops", isn't she?

Do you struggle in life? If your brain can't hold that you can support your armed forces but be against the war the politicians sent them to fight. Not a powerhouse you have up there is it?

Like a vast majority of Americans, I suspect she's done absolutely nothing to personally support our troops.

I'm just kidding. I take that back. Some heroic and selfless Americans have sacrificed valuable back windshield/bumper space to put yellow ribbon bumper stickers on their car proclaiming their support for the troops and commanding others to do the same. Maybe she put one of those yellow ribbon bumper stickers on her car, too?

My GF loves them and I actually enjoyed their PBS concert. The contraversy in Texas and across the nation is a fascist technique to stifle dissent.

Pavlovian response.

Notice how all BGC contributes are red herrings to derail discussion.

Well, she supports the troops by way of the millions of dollars of taxes she probably will have to pay this year on their album sales to fund an illegal and unjustified war.
Anyway they must be good, because people in my family who usually hate country listen to their new album and enjoy it. I guess they are still totally blacklisted by most country stations, despite making what is presumably high-quality country music. This supports previous theories that people who listen to country are intolerant conservative hicks.

Why do people insist on talking about these brainwash topics?

The Dixie Chicks made some statements that weren't too smart given the climate at the time and the general tendancies of their core fan base. I'm not saying they were right or wrong. It was just a bad decision. If you're an entertainer or a sports icon, the best thing to do is to keep your mouth shut on politics if you aren't prepared to face the ramifications.

I heard them interviewed on Stern maybe a year ago and they seemed much less annoying than I would have expected. I got the impression they found the whole 'controversy' pretty ridiculous and they didn't seem to regret what they said at all.

I love the courage and bravery comments, good stuff. Tell me, how brave is George Bush?

Funny thing is, many people are claiming their remarks were either acts of sedition or treason, pointing out that they were on foreign soil when they made the statements against the president...
