am fully aware that the muscles that open a crocs mouth are not strong. But the croc could easily use its bodyweight to flail or roll over and get the human off of him.

Look at the fifth video on this page: link It took rope and over 5 men (including steve irwin) to subdue this crocodile. And that crocodile was not even that big.

Well done nice research.

There is no way a tigger could defeat a hippo. I don't think he could even pierce his skin. One chomp from the hippo and its all over.

From the posted hippo web page:
"the hippo can run at fast speed on land and it would be futile to try to outpace one that was in an aggressive mood."

Additional info about hippos that I know for a fact:

Their endurance is incredible. Sometimes, when two males are desiring the same female hippo they fight to the death, and these fights have been known to last 6+ hours.

You don't think a 20ft, 1200 pound crocodile could shake him off of his mouth? I think you are underestimating how huge and strong these things are.

[/ QUOTE ]
That's one of the things about the croc though, it's muscles that it uses to open its mouth and move it's neck aren't near as strong as other parts of his body. It's been said before you just gotta keep his mouth shut

[/ QUOTE ]

At 20' your whole upper torso would be involved in trying to hold his mouth closed if you got close enough. THe darn things are amazingly quick, but if you were lucky enough to hold that mouth down, his next natural deffense is to role like a log.

I've been rolled by a 1200 ibs horse, neither of us was too happy about hte experience, but buddy let me tell you the horse came out a whole lot better.

Here's my bracket:

Lion over Rhino
Elephant over Grizzly
Crocodile over UFC
Hippo over tiger
---
hippo over lion pulls the upset
elephant over human
----
in the final:
elephant

tough choice, had to go with the elephant though you could make a good case for the hippo. Went with the elephant due to size advantage and reach advantage.

The 2nd clip should clear up any question on the man vs. elephant argument.

[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I'm done arguing that one.
