[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] This is actually why I'm surprised that players such as Mike Sexton and the now controversial Daniel Negreanu are not involved. [/ QUOTE ] I think everyone is underestimating how clever Daniel has been through all this. Daniel and the head guy at WPT (Steve Lipscomb?) are supposedly good friends. In any event, at one point, the WPT was using Daniel's image in a way in which Daniel didn't approve of. Daniel raised a stink on his web site and eventually the WPT stopped using Daniel's image, although they continued using other players' images. Now, I think that Daniel and Steve have somewhat of a symbiotic relationship. As long as Steve doesn't use Daniel's image in a way that Daniel disapproves of, Daniel will speak out against the lawsuit. As long as Daniel continues to speak out against the lawsuit, Steve will not dare to use Daniel's image. They both kind of need each other and I'm sure both Daniel and Steve would prefer their current relationship as opposed to a lawsuit. One of the side benefits to Daniel of this lawsuit is that the WPT fields are weaker due to the 7 plaintiffs boycotting of the WPT. Thus, Daniel not only has an incentive to stay out of the lawsuit so that he can play against the weaker fields, he also has an incentive to inflame the issue so that the lawsuit might drag on longer. Anyway, I think Daniel has played his hand very well here. His image is not being misused, he gets to play against weaker WPT fields, and he supposedly plays poker with Steve and takes money off him. Pretty damn clever and much better than being involved in an expensive, emotionally-charged lawsuit. [/ QUOTE ] Launching threats to send Howard Lederer to prison for supporting the suit? (essentially blackmail) Yea that Daniel Negreanu, So full of class. What a heck of a guy. Danny is a dirtbag. Period. [/ QUOTE ] I don't see anywhere mentioned that he would report them for tax evasion (which is all hearsay anyways) for supporting the suit. If anything, it's because he simply doesn't like them. Dirtbag or not, I don't see any form of blackmail here. Let's not start making things up now. [/ QUOTE ] I think it's a bit stronger than hearsay. I personally saw Annie mention it several times during a rant she had on UB yesterday during the $100 Aruba satellite when some observer asked her about the suit. I tend to think it's true. |

[ QUOTE ]
We just want the WPT to do the right thing. [/ QUOTE ] Mr. Raymer.... The right thing for whom? For you? They are in it to make money for themselves plain and simple, and guess what...THEY HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO DO SO! Ultimately Mr. Raymer, they have no obligation to anyone to change their business strategies. It truly does not matter what it says on their release form, they are not forcing you to play, and ultimately the CHOICE to play is YOURS. You can make a substantial living playing poker in many different venues, online, in casinos, and in non televised tournaments. The WPT has dictated their price to play. The buy-in is the explicit price and the fact that they make you sign a waiver that releases many many things is the implicit price. You clearly can afford the buy in. The question is the affordability of the release. Can you afford to pay that price? If you can, great. If not, and you decide that the price is expensive, then don't buy. Unfortunatley, you are in no position to dictate the price that the WPT sets. It is theirs to set, and it is for the consumer to purchase. Supply and demand...and that is exactly what you are going to hear in the end. As an aside, comparing the WPT to the NFL or even the PGA is a flimsy arguement at best. Those organizations have player associations and the structure in place there is much much different than it is in poker. Unless there is an organized poker league, then the arguments that you are making really don't have much to stand on. You simply cannot compare sports leagues to a simple poker tournament. The Hun. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] What in the world is a young-earth creationist? [/ QUOTE ] Similar to a Flat-Earther. A YEC is someone who rejects virtually all of science, and thinks the Earth is only about 6000-10000 years old. (We know for a fact that the Earth is about 4.55 billion years old.) [/ QUOTE ] Are you serious? Anybody got a link to some proof that Negreanu believes this? [/ QUOTE ] I remember reading one of Barry Greensteins old posts about this, so its very probable http://archiveserver.twoplustwo.com/show...rue#Post1890500 |

DN alluded to the tax issue on his videoblog when he first mentioned the lawsuit about 3 weeks ago. FWIW I think DN has lost far more respect in terms of the public's perception of him than anyone else. He comes across as a vindictive whiney twerp who seems to believe that people should attach a great deal of importance to what he has to say. Watching DN pretend to act drunk after driving home (Hahaha, wasn't that cool? I don't drink and drive though) should serve as another example to his utter cluelessness. His rants, antics and ill-informed opinions over the last month have seriously eroded his reputation as poker goodwill ambassador to all but the most diehard of fanboys.

[/ QUOTE ] I remember reading one of Barry Greensteins old posts about this, so its very probable http://archiveserver.twoplustwo.com/show...rue#Post1890500 [/ QUOTE ] That's a wild thread. Greenstein is an atheist, huh? That's surprising, but to each his own. I'm a Christian, but I don't try to impose my beliefs on others. These types of beliefs are very personal, and I respect the rights of others to believe as they wish, even though I may think they are dead wrong. However, I do believe that there is a lot of truth to the old saying that there are no atheists in a foxhole. LOL Barry Greenstein is obviously a very good person regardless of his religious beliefs or lack thereof. If Daniel Negreanu believes that the earth is younger than 6,000 years old, I think he's wrong, but he certainly has the right to believe that. You don't have to completely ignore indisputable scientific proof in order to be a Christian. I will say this about Daniel. You can't deny his skill as a poker player, but from watching him on television and reading some of his stuff on FCP, I used to think he was kind of a pest with an ego far too big for even his amazing poker ability. However, I was on the rail right next to the table that he was playing at in the Main Event last Friday night, and I was surprised at how nice and unassuming he was. Sure he's a very intense player who constantly jabbers at the table, but that's his style and it works well for him. At one point, he basically yelled at the dealer when he thought she was about to do something wrong, but he immediately and repeatedly apologized to her for raising his voice and explained why he was concerned about what she was going to do. What impressed me the most was that, during a short break to deal with some logistical issue, Daniel came over to the rail and just hung out and talked to the railbirds like a normal person. If you didn't know who he was, you would have thought that he was some internet qualifier who was just having a good time. His actions during that relatively short period of time greatly increased my opinion of him. Barry and Raymer were like that, too: just really down-to-earth, first class guys. I think both Daniel and Raymer have acted childish about this lawsuit. I mean come on, who wants to get down on the level of somebody like Annie Duke? However, they are human and humans often don't act like they should act. They are still both good people. However, this is another unfortunate side effect of this ill-advised lawsuit. It is splitting the professional poker community apart at a time when everyone should be united and fighting our government instead of fighting each other. |

[/ QUOTE ] This is I believe an accurate word for word transcript of what Daniel actually said in his 7-26-2006 video blog in which he mentions "tax records". [ QUOTE ] Daniel N - I just think that in the media, that the World Poker Tour can have a field day with all the players' past, you know, tax records, legality of what they're doing, it's all this negative stuff. I mean I pray, literally I pray that they will drop the lawsuit because eventually it will crack down to all the poker players who are potentially involved with poker sites and things like that. [/ QUOTE ] I don't think there's any way an honest onlooker could take that to be some kind of threat against anybody. Daniel is expressing his deep concern about the negative media for "all" poker players that the lawsuit may generate. There is certainly no mention of Howard Lederer in the comment. Howard Lederer is mentioned in comments preceding this one as well as Chris Fergeson. Daniel talks about Fergeson's alleged claim that the WPT is preventing him from earning a living. Daniel then goes on to talk about how the WPT has enabled players to create "Brands" for themselves. Daniel gives Lederer as an example of such a player. I don't know what Annie Duke is actually saying. Noone has posted any transcripts of her chat. However the comments posted above which are attributed to her are complete misrepresentations of what Daniel actually said in his vblog. PairTheBoard |

All we have to go on is sekrah's post, but it doesn't look to me like sekrah is saying that Annie was summarizing Daniel's vblog. It sounds like they've had communications outside of his vblog. |

Next time she's on, I'll sit and see if she can elaborate. |
