Default The ChessPain Appreciation Thread

Sir I just want to voice my appreciation of the iniative you have taken over the past couple of college/moneymaker/parents hate me threads. I do hope that you'll continue to lock these suckers as soon as they surface.

You will also appreciate it when this thread is locked, too, I suppose?

I don't care if he locks this or not, I just want him to continue locking the washed up college kid / parents drama that surfaces atleast five times a night. This is the psychology forum not the family therapist forum.

It's only May; things will settle down once these guys realize they won't make it as a summer pro and get real jobs instead.

One could compile an FAQ, like most other forums. But instead of questions like What does VP$P mean? we'll have Should I drop out of college? and then just a link to the threads.

I'd like to think the people making these threads just don't see the previous ones which already have all the same answers they are going to get.

And swings, you seem to have a personal vendetta against Moneymaker. You keep referencing him as everyone's inspiration but hardly anyone has brought him up.

I'm only 21 and it was my success in homegames, not television that made me try out the internet 15 months ago. I'm sure many are the same. Most of the people inspired by television poker icons aren't the ones posting in these threads, they're the ones giving us money in the games.

So you're saying the people who feel the need to ask if they should go pro aren't the donators? The way I look at it is - if you have to ask a bunch of strangers, clearly you aren't ready to play professionaly. Also a great number of people who make these posts still live with their parents. And many of them have referenced the Moneymaker boom as what got their interest. Unfortunately I know this because the threads are full of them. And I agree, just make it a sticky.

Nah, just about all the people asking if they should go pro are winning players. They just haven't been winning long enough or big enough to make any sort of decision about it. Most of them would be donators if they stepped out of 3/6 and tried to play 50/100, sure, but if they think they can go pro, they know their limitations.

Very true. Although most of the people who ask don't need to ask and probably will not be influenced by the results of their thread. They're just looking for support.

Having your family to fall back on and not feeling the pressure of the necessity to perform well or you don't eat is the best time to figure out where you're at in your game and determine how high you can go and how much you can earn. Once you need the money, you'll be less likely to take shots at higher games with the money you need and less likely to build up a bigger role and dramatically increase your hourly rate.

I guess the general advice is; don't move out and don't go pro until you know it's the right thing to do.

I haven't looked at all the replies in the threads closely enough, so I won't dispute you here. Since the WSOP on TV attracts fish, it must attract some of the winners (and posters here) as well.

Actually a pretty good idea.
