Default 1/2 A high river value bet

3 handed, game's playing pretty aggressive, i've been running fairly hot and been getting called down too much. Opponent seems pretty good, but he seem pissed.

Villain raises from the button, i 3bet AJo from BB

Flop: K 8 2r

I bet, he calls.

turn: 3

check, bet, call

river: 6

i bet...

standard?

Id think there would be more worse hands he'd bluff with than there are worse hands he'd call with, unless he's going to call with something like jack high. And if you're for even a moment going to consider the thought of this being for value, you cant ever expect him to fold a better hand.

Plus - if you're folding to a raise, you occasionally fold a winner.

i really really really dont like that river bet.

like wow. i mean you probably got called by A9 or something since it got posted but its just when he DOES call you should physically wince b/c you're almost always beat.

Honestly, inducing a bluff never crossed my mind, but is a bet here really that bad?

I guess I didnt mention this in the original post, but he had been calling me down on a regular basis with K high.

The only hand that beats me that he'll check behind with is AQ, so I really think a bet here is profitable. Let me know what i'm missing here

do you expect to win 55% of the time that your bet is called?

you're representing something like A6 or 44, it shows a lot of weakness and ur likely to get raised by a worse hand more often than called by one.

This is irrelevant as he's out of position.

To the original poster, your opponent would have to be a rare breed to call your river bet with a worse hand after the line you've taken. He's got to ask himself what you were calling the turn with on this rather drawless board, as it basically has to mean a decent hand you'd like to showdown.

I don't have a problem at all with checking and folding this on the river.
