I have an hour drive to and from work each day, and it's mostly through wooded areas.I have come close so many times, to nailing deer with my car. Fortunately, I have always been able to avoid barely contact.
The only animal I have killed so far, was a giant opposum. It was nasty, I am pretty sure I ran his head over. Bump-bump, bump-bump! So, you guys ever run over any interesting animals with your car? |

No interesting animals for me. But probably 3 squirrels, a chipmonk, and a few birds over the years.

I ran over a bunny once on the way to a game.... had a big night.
Now, the neighbors complain about the tracks I leave in their lawns |

blinden,
It's a really long story, but I'll give the synopsis here: Summer of 1992, around 11:30 at night, I had just dropped off my girlfriend a few minutes before at her parents house. I wasn't wearing a helmet. I was going about 65-70 or so when I saw a deer running at my headlight. I swerve to miss it, it swerves to hit me. Hits me betwen the forks and the gas tank. Bike shoots out from under me to the left, I go over the handlebars. At the time I was probably travelling around 60 mph. I tuck into a ball I guess, and roll down the highway for about 200 yards. When I came to a stop, I was standing. The deer and the bike were toast. (The deer had a broken neck, my bike was still running, but the clutch handle was ripped off and the handlebars were bent. I checked myself over and didn't see anything too messed up, my pants were shredded, my knees were hurting and my hands were really chewed up. I flagged down a guy in a camaro and had him take me back to my girl's house. She takes me to my grandparents house 5 miles away. (I wasn't really thinking right, in case you didn't notice) I get about half way to the hospital and realize I have a gaping hole in my side. The hole was around 4 inches long and 2 inches deep, with a small flap of flesh in the middle of the gash. My elbow was missing a nice chunk of flesh as well, I could see a large artery sticking out of it, luckily, it wasn't punctured. I didn't break any bones, the only scratch on my head was on my nose from where my glasses flew off. I had severe road rash on my right arm, all the skin was gone. Muscles tissue is pretty weird looking. The doctor cleaned me up, stitched me up and sent me on my way. I slept for almost 36 hours after the accident. |

We had this thread last week didn't we? [/ QUOTE ] If that is true - my bad. But that motorcycle story is pretty sick. Sometimes I leave at 1am, and that almost guarantees deer sightings. I hate seeing those bastards by the side of the road, freakin me out as I drive by, looking like they are ready to jump out in front of my car. A couple weeks ago, about 7:30am on a Saturday, I was driving to a class I teach. A frikkin HERD of 6 deer come LEAPING from the woods 10ft in front of my car. I locked up the brakes and probably came a foot from clipping them. Idiot deer! Actually, it's our own fault. If we weren't building God damn condos everywhere, they would have more woods to live in. Idiot condo developers! |
