Prison in Cali is a whole different situation in several ways. You can't smoke anymore so cigs are out. In several pens you can't lift weights so that is out. There is much more conflict between the aryans and the black gangs. Also rape isn't nearly as uncommon as it sounds like it is in Virginia. I think this might all just be a difference in demographics honestly. I have never personally done time in prison, as I sobered up/got my time in jail done when I was younger, but I have at least 50 friends who have done time in San Quentin/Fulsom/ Soledad/ Chino. I would say.... don't go to prison.

And congrats on 2.5 years sober, I don't know many people who have made it that far without a program.

Thanks for the federal prison link mcdc, but it was very short and general and didn't include the ass-rape, gang-fight and prison guard corruption/violence stats I was interested in.

Did you get calenders in your cell?

Did you celebrate holidays?

I guess if you were in the joint and another prisoner looked at you mean, you'd have your pants down around your ankles and would have assumed the position before he could even ask if you had a match.

Yes. Ones with pentetration weren't allowed, but this wasn't enforced.

"Did any friends come to visit you? (non family)"

Just my girlfriend. I'll post a pic if this thread doesn't die soon.

Some were alright, others were hard to deal with. I didn't have an opinion on most of them though.

Starting school in the fall, other than that I have no idea.

There was a chaplin... and no.

A couple, yes.

If you get sick, you fill out a form, and wait for several days to be treated. If it's an emergency they bring you to the medical unit.

No

Yes, this is what scares me.

It didn't/doesn't gross me out. I used brand new needles from a pharmacy, and it's probably not as bad as you think... well, I mean as far as the administration of it... being addicted to the drug is obviously as bad as you think.

I've never seen the show, but intervention did help me.

I just want to clarify something.... I was reading over my responses and I think I painted a picture of prison being perfectly safe and not that bad. This isn't what I intended. It is dangerous, and people are killed/hurt. But to think that you're going to go into prison and immediately be raped for no apparent reason is far from the truth. I was locked up in high security level prison, which houses VA's death row, so it had some rough criminals in it. Whether or not this is comparable to NY or California I have no idea.
