Uh, no it isn't.

Being league-average is pretty good in the MLB. It's tough to run across a freely available league-average player. When you can get a player who is better than league-average for nothing, you have done well.

Whether or not a player is a valuable asset to a team has no bearing on price. Hee Seop Choi is still a valuable asset at $20 million, he is not just an efficient asset.

By the way, "above average" is bad, too. Average != 0 value. The baselien is somewhere below that.
