whitelime, While this may not be a book one can understand with "minimal effort" it's one I think everyone should be required to read prior to graduating from high school (I read this on my own, FWIW): 1984. Oh, and another one I don't know that anyone's mentioned yet: Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. [/ QUOTE ] Flux, You will like "A Brave New World" by Auldous Huxley. |

Tom Clancy novels have a lot going on, but his writing style is very straightforward.
Asimov is a great sci-fi read. His books are well-written and straightforward. Also, unlike many sci-fi novels, everything that happens in his books seems plausible. The Foundation and Robot series. Clive Barker's The Thief of Always is a good (and quick) holiday read. |

If you like Sci-Fi/Supernatural stuff written in a super easy to read format check out Dean Koontz. This guy has written tons and tons of mass-market paper back type books, that usually involve aliens, monsters, psychic stuff etc, and written in a way so you can plow through them in no time.

Couldn't agree more with Ender's Game.
The Jester by James Patterson and Andrew Gross made me ignore the world until I was done. Great historical (Crusades) fiction. Edit: Also Ken Follett. Any Ken Follett. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I hate cluttered, overly descriptive writing. I want to be able to read the book and understand it completely with minimal effort. [/ QUOTE ] Hmm...have you ever read Finnegan's Wake? If not I think you'd like it. [/ QUOTE ] Really, anything by Joyce. Also Thomas Pynchon and David Foster Wallace. [/ QUOTE ]nh |
