I'm definitely a soccer noob, so my knowledge is limited. But ever since I heard him call the 2002 World Cup, Tommy Smyth has done the best announcing I've heard from anyone in any sport.

I don't see where a goal is gonna come from. [/ QUOTE ] Disregard that 4-1 to Liverpool & Besiktas won 2-1 Porto 8 pts Marseille 7 pts Liverpool 7 pts Besiktas 6 pts Liverpool still need to win on the last day, away games aren't easy at all in Europe so anything can happen yet, don't often see a group with all teams being able to qualify on last day Celtic won 2-1 in Last minute too weeeeeeeeeee |

If Porto get at least a point and Liverpool and Marseille draw then Marseille go through because they have 4 points against Liverpool.
If Porto lose and Marseille and Liverpool draw then it's a 3-way tie for second between those three. Ignoring Besiktas, the table is: Team W D L Pts Liverpool 1-2-1 5 Porto 1-2-1 5 Marseille 1-2-1 5 So it goes to goal difference between those teams. Liverpool have 5 goals for and 3 against Porto have 5 for and 7 against Marseille have 3 for and 2 against So Liverpool would advance. |

[/ QUOTE ] Do you mean the play-by-play or the color guy? I think Derrick Rae (sp?) is great as a play-by-play guy, I'm so-so on Smyth. I used to like him more, but his schtick gets old. |

Jared,
Do you know why do they do it that way instead of just overall GD? |

fink,
I'm not sure but I think it's so that it doesn't come down to who gets the most goals against the worst team. This group is actually pretty even, which makes Liverpool's huge win over Besiktas all the more crazy, but the group stage often has one team that is clearly the worst. It would be bad if a team advanced because they beat that team 12-0 instead of 8-0. Of course it could eventually come to that, but it should be lower IMO. |

So I was wrong on both Pool and Bremen but its fine by me because that last match day for Liverpool's group is going to be a riot.
