That is not exactly what the rule in Robert's (and most rule books) means. You are still supposed to show your hand, but if you are newish to the game and think stating "play the board" is enough you still get your fair share of the pot.

Just answering OP.

I don't think you were wrong, but you asked if anyone would have given him half the pot, and I would have.

I try to live by "do unto others...." (I'm not religious at all.) I also believe in "what goes around...."
