Can someone remind me for whom I am cheering the next two days.

Seems like there are some relevant games coming up.

Cliffnotes version, no algorithms.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think important games this week would be:

1) WVU over UCONN
2) Va Tech over UV
3) Miami over BC would help, but not necessary as long as Va Tech beats BC in the ACC championship
4) If you think the Illini can get in the BCS over a 1 loss Boise State team then hope they beat Hawaii. If a 1 loss BSU team can get in ahead of the Illini we need Hawaii to beat Boise, but then loss their finale vs. Washington

Upcoming weeks...
5) Va Tech over BC in the ACC championship
6) Washington over Hawaii

If OSU somehow slides into the top 2 in the BCS, Illini go to the Rose Bowl? This was in a Trbiune article last week.

Certainly if they are eligible. Rose Bowl loves Big Ten/Pac Ten and will take that whenever possible. If they can do it within the BCS rules, they will.

I think I read on the BCS site that the Rose Bowl is a BCS bowl, so if OSU goes to the Championship game, then the Rose Bowl will only have Big Ten team (Illini e.g.) if that team is BCS eligible.

So will the Texas loss move the Illini up a spot?

Yeah but it doesn't necessarily help since we wouldnt mind the B12 clogging up the top 14.

OK, so I decided I might as well write it down instead of asking stupid Q's.

I suppose also Missouri beating Kansas would help as it makes one of Illinois' losses look "better" and probably slight raises computer rankings on strength of schedule?

1. LSU (SEC)
2. Kansas (B12)
3. West Virginia (Big East)
4. Missouri (B12)
5. Ohio State (B10)
6. Arizona St (P10)
7. Georgia (SEC)
8. Virginia Tech (ACC)
9. Oregon (P10)
*. Oklahoma (B12)
*. USC (P10)
*. Florida (SEC)
*. Texas (B12)
10. BC (ACC)
11. Hawaii (WAC)
*. Virginia (ACC)
12. Illinois (B10)
*. Tenn (SEC)
13. Boise St (WAC)
14. Conn (Big East)

I don't have a dog in this fight but I think Illini fans want for West Virginia to lose so that Ohio State plays in the national title game. With LSU losing they'll get there if WVU loses. Then Illinois needs to get into the top 14 and the Rose Bowl will take them for the Big 10 - Pac 10 matchup.

For that you'll only need a couple teams to fall. Oregon, Arizona State, Oklahoma, BC and Hawai'i could all easily drop out with another loss. If I were the gambling type I would say that Illinois are better than even money to finish in the BCS top 14.
