i think it was just a clever set up...almost all shows would have eneded with Betty Blue dying. This was much more of a shock given it seemed either A they made it out or b at worst Betty Blue would die which the audience had kind of prepared itself for. Hector dying was basically how it is in real life probably...bang bang...man down.
