You're free to tip whatever you want to. I just always say to those who watch the tips for a down at their table and multiply... I'm tipping out $4/hr chip runners, $1.5/hr DC, $3/hr floor, a few bucks a night to the cage, I have two hours (usually at least) of break, and plenty of tables with hardly any tokes.

It's a sweet job for what it is, don't get me wrong, but there's more than what you see.

Anyway, I'm happy with $1/pot as long as you keep the game moving. Be a courteous, consistent player. Don't hide your cards. Put your bets in. Understand that we make mistakes sometimes. Help rather than hinder. Smile. Say hello.

All of that means much more to me than a big tip. When a pro/prop tips me a buck, I'm more appreciative because I understand how much more it means to them. And I certainly don't think down on one for no tip on a blind steal or tiny post-drop flop.

The pros I don't like are those that want me to sing for my supper. Sorry, I'm not kissing your ass in hopes that after a year of dealing perfectly with no mistakes (in your own ego-filled mind), you might throw me a buck here or there. If you're that kind of player, stay at home.

So, be nice. And understand that other players look to you as an example, so, please, at least do one chip when appropriate. If you really feel you can't tip, then the least you can do is be a good, friendly, helpful player. It's your choice not to tip, but don't hold up my game or encourage others to be discourteous through example.

I play in NYC at a place where I'm a regular and I tip more than most of you. Club dealers do not get a paycheck, they live entirely on tips. (Honestly, you pros and pro wannabes come off sounding cheap to me--and I'm a guy who thinks of himself as too cheap sometimes!)

I tip $1 for any pot, even a blind steal.
I tip $2 for a pot over $150.
For bigger pots, I tip 1% of my profit for the pot.

I am a winning player, so I'm not tipping myself into oblivian. I'm also an uber-tight player, so I'm not tipping that many pots.

At casinos I don't tip blind steals but I will tip every other pot at least $1.

They get no insurance, no unemployment benefits, and are subject to arrest. Absolutely the players should be taking good care of these dealers.

So if you win a 160 pot where you played heads up the whole way, you profit $80. How much do you tip?

Interesting, no one seems to factor the rake into their tipping policy. I certainly toke more at a place that rakes 4$ per pot than one that rakes 6$ per pot (limit HE).

Also whether the place pools tips or not. Does that make a diffence to anyone? Not saying that it should change your toking but for some of us it does.
