Default Re: Stiffing

[ QUOTE ]

have you never ordered beers at a bar before? if you are paying cash for each drink or round, it is completely standard to leave a tip ($1/drink, less for several is ok) when you receive the drink ($5 drink, you leave $6, or when he brings you change for a $20, you leave a $1). obviously if you're running a tab it's different, but you're saying you were paying cash for the drinks, so while it may have been rude for the bartender to say anything, it was perfectly reasonable for him to assume you were most likely stiffing him.

I understand it is normal to tip for every drink. However, the atmosphere of this place and the situation made it feel acceptable to just tip in the end.

When I left the guy a $20 for the first round, he left my change on the bar and then went over to the two other people at the bar that he had been talking with since I sat down. He didn't really give me time to give him a tip; and I didn't put that money in my pocket, it remained on the table.

I just thought it was a dick move to say something like this to a customer.
