5/10 NL. $2,000 stacks, 9 handed.
You raise UTG with A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] to $35. One call by TAG in middle pos. Flop: A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] You bet out 3/4 pot $60, TAG raises to $180, you re-raise to $580, he pushes all-in. What do you do, why, and what are TAG's possible holdings. |

seems fairly simple. Only saving grace that would let you get away from this is that there is no draw out there. That's just the cost of playing poker, he'd give you his stack if the roles were reversed too.

I guess he has 88. Oh well. I probably call anyway.

Best case--you chop. Worst case, he slow-played AA, KK pre-flop or has 88 and flopped bottom set.
I would fold and not sweat too much about it. Garland |

Garland [/ QUOTE ] I agree, it's an option live. online I won't fold this, though you're approaching the blind/stack ratio on a drawless board, where a fold would be prudent. |

So what happened?
BTW, since it's a drawless flop, does anyone else think that the $580 re-raise is excessive? Doesn't something like $480-$500 accomplish the same thing? Garland |

He wanted to show his opponent that, "Yes. I have it. Fold if you cannot beat AK."

if we are so sure we are beat here, then we shouldn't 3 bet.

I don't like the 3-bet here at all. If you are to fold here after 3-beting you are essentially making your hand/3-bet into a bluff since he will probably just push everything he's gonna go on with anyway.
As played (which I of course didn't like) and he really is a solid TAG, I'm folding. This is only two possible hands; AK for a split (more often) or 88 and you're toast. I'm not calling 1500 more for a split. I expect to pretty much never see AA/KK here, no solid tag is gonna cold call with those hands when you have deep stacks, and people only rarely does this with 100bb stacks even. |
