I've started jogging because I'm about 8 years overdue to start. Anyway, many nights I end up working until 9:00 pm, and it's dark out when I finally get home. I would like to go running right after I get home, before dinner.
Besides bright-colored clothes...any advice? I'm a little clumsy so I'm wondering if running in the dark is a good idea, or a tib/fib fracture waiting to happen. |

I did it for years and never came close to getting injured. If you're one of those guys who crosses the street in the daytime without even looking, watch out. If you keep your wits about you, you should be fine. I'd be more concerned with getting chased by dogs than anything.

Dirty windows, poorly lit street, distracted driver--> brightly colored isn't enough. Wear something reflective. And assume people can't see you.

Be defensive and you'll be fine. Don't assume any driver sees you.

Try to find a park or somewhere with a trail.

Don't get hit by a car.

watch out for potholes and uneven ground that will destroy your ankle and leg.

I used to run at nights with a running club. One night one of the female runners found the pothole. Ended up in the hospital.
Being clumsy is not good. Wear reflective clothes. Carry a flashlight. Check the batteries. Scream at approaching cars. |
