The course is in Rancho Sante Fe, which is the most expensive neighborhood in the COUNTRY, so hopefully they're not all gonna be stingy cause they just spent all their money on their houses. [/ QUOTE ] FYI the course I mentioned earlier where waiters aren't tipped is one of the most exclusive in the country and home to many of the country's richest, most powerful men. |

blackize,
I know of clubs where it's strictly forbidden for staff to take tips. Seems pretty weird but I assume they're comped well by the club. BTW I don't mind a no-tipping policy, it gets rid of that tension about how much to tip, who to tip, etc. Most courses now these guys come out and wipe down my clubs when I'm done and I'm expected to give them $2+ for that? Plus they don't do a very thorough job at all. But if I tell them "no thanks" then I feel like a cheap bastard. Annoying. |

Caddies, bartenders, and the golf pros get tips regularly. Some of the other employees get tips occasionally and usually from guests around tournament times. I don't mind a no tipping policy either. It's just very odd to find a place where the norm is not tipping people who usually get tips elsewhere. |

[/ QUOTE ] Couple things: I worked at one of the clubs in the Vally(Phoenix) that did not allow members to tip. They go through memeber service employees faster than any other club in the state. Also, they do not compansate for the lack of tips like you would think. The members are acually fined up to $500 if they are cought tipping anyone. It is a very high end place though so there are a few guys that would slip us a $100 all the time and just say "screw the club I'm tipping" I have cleaned so many sets of clubs I don't want to think about it. I always give a $10 and tell them not to worry about cleaning them just to get them in my car if I get too drunk to remember. Like I have said before I'm a PGA member so I usually don't pay for rounds so $10 tip to the outside guys is normal for me. $2-5 is all anyone expects for paying customers. |

Hass,
Interesting. It's just that giving just $1 comes off as chintzy, $2 seems right, and if you are tipping for the other guy you just give him a $5 for both people. The reason I'm not surprised that the club could never make up for it is these guys can make pretty damned good money if every group is giving them ~$5 (assuming there's two guys, one for each cart) and groups are coming in every 8-10 minutes, even more if it is a multi-course facility. Let's say it's only every 15 minutes instead. The guys are still making $20/hr plus what the course pays them. That's damned good for what they do IMO, and who knows if they report any of it. Are you at liberty to say which club it was here? Estancia or something at that level? Also, "lonely" is misspelled in your Loc:, FYI. |

[/ QUOTE ] You are right about the guys making $20/hour which is why people quit so fast when they find out they are getting $10 and not able to recieve tips. Also, this is the reason why $2-3 is plenty to tip. If everyone would tip $2 they would make a killing, but a lot of people won't tip anything or maybe $2 a group. I have seen many people hand an employee $2 and tell the rest of their group not to tip because "they got it." This was Desert Highlands in Scottsdale btw. I'm sure tips get reported as much as home poker winnings get reported for taxes. Oh and I'm a horribe speller, thnks.......Went to ASU so....ya know. EDIT: spelling, lol |

By the way, I usually smuggle a handle of Jack Daniel's onto the course and either also smuggle soda too or just buy it from you. Don't take it personally. I don't feel like paying $6 for a goddamned Jack & Diet Coke. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] But if I tell them "no thanks" then I feel like a cheap bastard. Annoying. [/ QUOTE ] Feel like a cheap bastard?
