I live in a dorm at NYU. I hooked up a wireless router. I have a desktop connected to it and use my laptop w/a wireless card.
For some reason my desktop runs fine but the internet runs really slow. I have adaware and norton and scanned them both. Any suggestions? Oh - the laptop works fine with the wireless. |

Did you secure the wireless network? It could be that a few dozen of your closest friends appreciate your wireless connection, too.

Has this been an ongoing thing for a while or is it just recent? Have you noticed a pattern of times it happens? The reason I ask is that because at my dorms at a school in Arizona (this was about 4 or 5 years ago), and the whole campus was on the same set of T1 lines, well every Tuesday and every Friday the entire dorm network slowed down, come to find out that the various departments were doing back ups, audits, and other very network intense operations. This was solved in about 6 months when they moved the dorms onto a seperate line.
Just kinda sounds like the same situation. |
