Default cursor moves randomly

Is there a simple solution for this or anyone know the cause? Both my mouse pointer and the writing cursor will randomly move from time to time. When I'm writing it causes some major typos and when I'm playing, it slows me down.

Thanks,

If it's an optical mouse (red light visible underneath rather than a ball), the surface it's on can make a difference, particularly if it's too reflective. Try putting a sheet of plain paper on the area the mouse covers and see if that stabilises it.
