Had to look up this one because it's just so weird.
From wikipedia: The film has gained a degree of infamy due to its extremely low box office gross, making it an extreme example of a box office bomb. Zyzzyx Road lasted only six days in release, from February 25, 2006 through March 2, 2006. The film was released in only one theater, in Dallas, Texas[4]. One of the most widely recognized aspects of Zyzzyx Road is its notably low box office draw.[5] The film is the lowest grossing film of all time, earning just $30 at the box office from exactly six patrons.[6] Unofficially, its opening weekend netted twenty dollars. The ten dollar difference is due to a personal refund by Grillo to makeup artist Sheila Moore, who had worked on the film, and her friend.[2] The release was purposefully shown for a short amount of time in the single theater, which the producers had rented for $1,000, to fulfill Screen Actors Guild rules that allow a low-budget film to pay actors a lower rate as long as that film is released in the United States. This showing in Texas was to fulfill that obligation without compromising the chances for future nationwide distribution through a distribution company.[2 |

I love Copland, one of my favorite watch it whenever it is on movies, that being said, when the previews came out for this movie, it looked like it would be the greatest movie of all time.
P.S. I'm pretty sure I have written this same paragraph before for an exact same thread. |

from Wiki...top box office BOMBS:
In the most dramatic cases, a film's poor performance can push a studio into financial ruin, as happened with United Artists (Heaven's Gate), Carolco Pictures (Cutthroat Island), Franchise Pictures (Battlefield Earth), and Square Pictures (Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within). also The size of a box office "bomb" can be determined by either the net loss sustained, or by a loss percentage (1 - gross revenue/production costs). By using these two measurements, the biggest U.S. box office bombs listed below are (respectively) Alexander (2004) with a net loss of $120,702,809, and Zyzzyx Road (2006) with a loss percentage of 99.9985% of production costs. Considering worldwide box office sales, the biggest loser was The Adventures of Pluto Nash (2002) with a net loss of $92,896,027. Contents http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...x_office_bombs |

I'm not sure I even heard of Zyzzyx Road.
They must have spent an awful lot on it and then practically completely buried it. |
