Fine, just for fun I went ahead and looked up all 16 of those FTP pros on www.officialpokerrankings.com, and you might be interested to know that only 3 out of the 16 of them have a positive ROI/profit overall in the past 120 days in MTTs.

Seriously, I doubt any of the serious high stakes tournament players fear these players at all. I don't usually play high buy in MTTs, but once in a blue moon when I do, I'm excited to see FT Pros so I can have a chance at the bounty.

For the record, Lynette Chan sucks at donkaments. I took her out in a 50/50 once. Totally donked up her previous hand (not against me). She did something along the lines of re-raising all in on the turn with just a gutshot against someone who was obviously never folding. Very cash game player-esque.

Chui is an excellent player, as is Toto. But what value can they bring to the site?

Obv if Ivey or Lindgren was playing that would definitely attract extra players.

But I can't believe any of these guys bring a penny of extra business to FTP.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think their strategy revolves around creating an environment where fans feel like they are interacting with pros on a regular basis. I'd guess that if even a few people who know of Chui or Toto from tv gets the chance to chat with them or observe them on the site that FTP considers that a marketing victory.

bust-out Jim McManus?

Feel real good, because he's quite a douche. I played some HORSE cash with him on FT recently, and he was just an unmitigated ass.

Almost nobody knows who most of these pros are. Half of this thread thinks the Sextons are Mike's kids and the other half says they're someone else. I don't even care enough to google it. I say make the Sextons whomever they are pay their own buy-ins.

That's one world class player and two "excellent" players out of 16.

McManus is definately an amateur who wrote a book. All of the female players are fairly weak.

I play this level of MTTs quite a bit, and know who the regulars are. I would be more concerned about one of those than most of these Full Tilt pros.

Maybe these "names" impress casual players more than they do people on this board.

What is the difference between FT giving them free entry into some touraments vs paying them? Fine, don't give them free entry, but pay them X dollars a month, which is equal to N number of tournament entries and *require* them to participate in N tourneys. Isn't that the same thing?

[/ QUOTE ]

The point is that these people shouldn't be paid at all. Do you like it when golf and/or tennis tournaments pay certain talented well-known golfers or tennis players to play the game ? I don't. If they're so good, why can't they pay their own way ?

And this doesn't even approach the level of professionality of golf or tennis. This is just Chris Ferguson and Perry Friedman saying "Yeah, he's a good guy, a good face for FTP ads, pay him to play." Or even worse it's just favors to their buddies, or just favors in general.

[/ QUOTE ]

You can't compare tennis and golf with poker because their prize pool is not created with entry fees, but rather sponsorship money. They don't buy-in to an event like poker players do. And it's not a matter of "well, if they're so good they should pay their own way." but more a matter of whether Full Tilt believes they are marketable and will benefit the site. It's just like saying, well, even though LeBron is sponsored by Nike he should have to pay for his shoes just like me. He shouldn't get them for free just because he's good enough.

wtf FTP is a private company and they can give money to anyone they feel like it

i dont see why this bothers you, OP.

unless you'd be fine with FTP telling you that you shouldn't give christmas presents to your kids, or w/e

I've heard many pros say they only play with their own money online, but FTP backs them in live tournaments.

I've heard the same thing. Something to do with the UIGEA per Milton Friedman.
