saw this yesterday...extremely underwhelming. I expected more from the director of Aquirre The Wrath of God...a perfectly fine POW movie that coulda been a TV movie of the Week...not memorable in the least

I think you should definitely go see it. I personally loved it and found it to be a very moving and powerful film. While I wouldn't put this up there with Aguire and Fitzcaraldo, this is definitely a outstanding film with Chritian Bale yet again turning in another top notch performance. I just saw it today, and am still thinking about it a good 6 hours afterwards. This is one of those films that really plays up the human condition and what people will go through to achieve what they truly want. The film really takes a life of its own in the last 1/3 of it and is also the most important part

I can see that sentiment to be honest. This is the type of film that I generally gravitate towards as I can be a big sucker for films about the plight of the human condition. I think this is one of those either/or films, but is worth checking out to determine your thoughts on. For me, I quite possibly took the season into my thought process on the film as I rarely expect much out of summer films, and this, for me, did much more then that. I may feel different if this was released in november, but one can only go on what one feels at the time, et al

Even the worst Herzog film is worth checking out.

I posted this in OOT too, but I suppose this is a better place.

This might be due to unfair expectations, but I found the movie to be too . . . conventional, I guess. It was a perfectly decent movie, but I expect more from Herzog. If I hadn't known I never would have guessed in a million years that he was the director.
