i'm a literary snob but i don't understand why people go out of their way to bash the Browns, Clancys, and Chrichtons.
they are good at what they do. they write exciting books that are entertaining to a lot of people. are you just as condescending about the same fun, cheesy action movies? |

[ QUOTE ] Me too and I've read a lot of great books, unfortunately since you said you like Dan Brown you won't be getting any suggestions. [/ QUOTE ] Wny not try and open his mind and turn him on to The Good [censored] if you hate Dan Brown all that much? [/ QUOTE ] Okay here are some reading suggestions along the lines of Dan Brown. Read a tabloid, posts by peachy, or stories written by people from your local kindergarden or mental institute. Though they are at about the same level, they aren't quite as vaccuous as the Da Vinci Code. Still though, you will probably enjoy them. |

I recently discovered Michael Connolly--had two long flights to Anaheim and San Antonio (from Buffalo), had never heard of him, tried a few books. Deals with ex-cop type-turn-detective story lines. Kind of a working class Grisham.
Nelson Demille (General's Daughter) has put out a LOT of good stuff. |

I suggest any of the Aubrey & Maturin novels by Patrick O'Brien. The first one is Master and Commander. [/ QUOTE ] This is an extremely excellent series. Do not, however, read just any (in particular, do not start with The Far Side of the World, despite that being the title of the movie). Read them in order. |
