Bacterial infection would should only have serious symptoms for 3-4 days. Would only be longer if bateria is resistant to antibotics used, or person didn't get them for a few days. Tonsils cannot bleed badly though, if seriously inflammed will bleed a little with a bad respiratory infection, but that is not a-typical. Serious bleeding is, and would require hospital admittance, generally all serious, uncontrolled bleeding requires hospital admittance, and would not be put off. I think what was said was that if her glands swelled enough to close, or to threaten to close her airway, (i.e. if the steriods had not worked), they would have had to put her in respiratory ICU. I was in Res. ICU for that reason once myself, (not from strep), if they think they may have to trach. you at any point, then you have to be there. Otherwise, she didn't seem that sick. They don't put you in the hospital for needing fluids, they just give them to you in ER. I speak from unfortunate experience.
