I typically play Turbo SNGs, where blinds escalate every 5 minutes, but UltimateBet also offers "Ultra-Turbo" SNGs, where blinds escalate every 2 minutes (!). Would anyone recommend playing these ultra-fast SNGs, or is it best to stay away? Obviously these go a lot quicker, and stack-to-blind ratios shrink very rapidly. What would be some of the advantages/disadvantages to playing in such tournaments? Ultimately, do you think the disadvantages outweigh the advantages, or vice versa, or is there not much of a difference from an hourly rate perspective either way?

Tough to say without playing them. You would lose some of your edge just as you would moving from 10min blinds to 5min, but if you played correctly by ICM when the blinds got big enough there is definitley a potential for profit, especially since these games will end much more quickly than a standard turbo format.
Testing it out though is probably the only way to figure out if the quicker games make up for the losses in your edge when it comes to hourly profit. |

Speaking for the evry low limits only:
Obviously a lot more variance but they are very profitable. If you play a ton of SNGs and want to max your hourly, play them. if you just play a couple of SNGs a day you'll probably shoot yourself in the head a lot less in the normal turbos because you actually get to play some poker. |

There'll be almost no chance to double up before you need to start push/fold, so it depends on how good you are at applying ICM compared to your average opponent. If ICM play is your strength (compared to your deep-ish stack play), then you should get more of an edge.
I play 6 man turbos - they're over quicker (20 mins to win, 15 mins on average) because they're both turbo and short-handed, but they actually play like a regular speed 10 man in the early levels because orbits are much quicker, cancelling out the turboness. Best of both worlds, for my preferred style of play anyway. |

After playing these some more, I'm convinced that good players do not have enough of an edge for these to be profitable in the long run.
You get under 10xBB VERY fast, you really don't get a chance to actually play much poker before then. Then, once everyone has a small stack in comparison to the blinds, they're pretty much forced to apply ICM, whether they know anything about it or not. Players get desperate, probably rightfully so, and are far looser with their calls when you do push. Basically, the ultra-turbos turn into a coinflip fest ultra fast, so it seems that whether you win in these really comes down to how you do in the coinflips. i.e. these seem HIGHLY dependent on luck, enough where there doesn't seem to be much of an exploitable edge...just my two cents |

what are "ultra turbo" sit n gos? if you mean just regular turbo sit n gos with 5min blinds or 3 min on FT then you are 1)very stupid 2)not played enough 3) a losing player [/ QUOTE ] I don't mean to be rude but you clearly did. If you would have read the OP you wouldn't be asking the question you did, so maybe you need to check your own criteria. |

Blinds go up every 2 mins? You ever play the extreme turbo 5 max Prima sngs? Starting stack is 1,000, blinds 10/20 and they go up every 2 (!!!) hands, top 2 get paid. You heard me right, hands. And there's no 50/100 level, it goes from 40/80 to 80/160 and so on.
I was wondering for a while whether these were beatable if you were a master of ICM push/fold ranges. But in the end I swore off of them because it was so swingy and everyone called you off so lightly and the HU battle is a must all in/call every hand. One cool thing though, if you are slightly winning or a breakeven player in these games, it's one sick way to accumulate rakeback/bonuses. |
