The board has previously chimed in heavily in favor of the DS

I would say the PSP, but if you want Mario and the other Nintendo like on the go, go for it.

True, but most people are Nintendo fanboys.

That said, I have the DS and don't regret buying it over the PSP. I've had some techinical issues with mine though, like a dead pixel and the machine not recognizing the cartridge at times.

DS cause its so much easier to play their ROMs and play homebrew things compared to Sony's PSP it has a better Online play as well I reckon.

The DS has some great strategy games, if you're into that. Advance Wars, Age of Empires, Battles of Prince of Persia, plus Warlords DS and a Panzer General-type game on the way.

Some good strategy titles for the PSP too:

Field Commander
2 x MGA Acid
D&D Tactics
Loads of RPG's

I think the PSP is finally moving away from the early days of just Driving / Racing games

What are these loads of RPG's that you speak of?

I thank everyone for opinions, and I think in the long run i'm going to end up having to get both systems.

I'm leaning towards the PSP right now because I am really really really wanting to play FF 1 and 2 and those were recently released on PSP.
however, after that I'll have to switch to DS and start going through the older FF games.

Also, anyone know off hand if the PSP/DS can be hooked to a TV and played with some AV cables?

I know you can play GBA games through the gamecube if you get the adapter which is something i'm looking into as well.
